World's Fair in pants hae had many ludi
crous and amusing features. The firet

xation was Chief Antonio. He was deck

and capped with a plug hat. He
titood around before his chattering cohorts
until he waB photographed for the War
Department when he took a sneak for

ers but faithfully wearing his coat, shirt,

low the tail of his coat, presenting a novel

Shot in a Duel.
Litchfield, 111., July 11. John Bees
ley, of Fayette county, was killed in
a duel near Van Burensburg, Mont
gomery county, by a man said to be
William Smith, of Bond county. Both
are men of family. Smith has been
arrested by Montgomery officials.
Sent Back to Wales.
Philadelphia, July 11. The 11 Welsh
miners who arrived here last Sunday
on the American liner Haverford, and
who proved to be contract laborers,
were Saturday deported on the same
vessel. The miners were bound for
Rock Fort and Arragon, Ga.
Are Searching For Neutrals.
New Chwang, July 11. Eight Japan
ese torpedo boat destroyers are sweep
ing the Gulf of Llao Tung in order
that a search for neutral ships may
he carried on In a more thorough man
ner. The Japanese are nightly bom
barding Port Arthur.
Two Boys Drowned.
Kansas City, July 11. Earl Denne
field, 11, and Owen Stone, 17, were
drowned In a pond In Kansas City,
Kan., while bathing. The Dennefield
boy ventured beyond his depth and
Stone perished while trying to saYO
his companion.
Freight Agent Randall Dead.
Chicago, July 11. Charles WV Ran
dall, western and division freight
agent of the Pan-Handle line, died
here after an Illness of several months.
Mr. Randall had been in the service of
the Pennsylvania lines for 35 years.
Made Remarkable Time.
Indianapolis, Ind., July 11. The spe
cial train which left here at 10:40 Sat
urday night, carrying Bourke Cockran
and several other democrats back to
St. Louis, made remarkable time. The
train made nearly a mile a minute.

Victor, Col., July 11. Frank P. Man
nix, clerk and recorder of Teller coun
ty, has left Victor, having been ac
corded a military guide as far as Can
yon City. The guard was command
ed by Adjt. Gen. Bell.
Greeted Cardinal Satolll.
Chicago, July 11. To greet Cardinal
Satolll and receive the papal blessing
which he bestowed Sunday, a crowd
of 8,000 persons struggled for admis
sion to Holy Trinity church at Noble
and Chapin streets.
Exhibitors Threaten to Withdraw.
St. Louis, July 11. The foreign ex
hibitors have united and, backed by
the commissioners from their respec
tive countries, threaten to withdraw
their exhibits if the fair management
persists in treating the exhibitors as
concessionaires.
Ambassador Storer III.
Vienna, July 11. Emory Storer,
American ambassador to Austria, la
suffering from intermittent fever. The
ambassador has been unable to attend
any of the court functions for some
time, and nls pnysiclans prescribe a
long rest.
Quiet Day at Sagamore Hill.
Oyster Bay, July 11. Sunday was a
notably quiet and uneventful day at
Sagamore Hill. No visitors were re
ceived by the president, although dur
ing the afternoon a few relatives and
intimate personal friends of the family
called.
