k-nd in tlie Tongass national forest
reserve for the use of the federal bu
rtau of education and the Klawak In
dians. The Klawak Indians have had
a village by that name on the western
coast nf I'rineo of Wales Island. The
place has been noted for its number
of totem poles and has been the gath
ering point for natives of that section
for many years, who are called t>
rt-ther by the traditions of their tribea.
Each totem pole represents family
relations and privileges and which 14
oected before the totem house which
affords common shelter for all the rel
atives and which was built from a
common fund. The reservation of this
tiact of land is to preserve it for the

point for the establishment of a native
