Manager, NOME ASSISTING ROOSEVELT MEMORIAL MOVEMENT i'nder the management and direction of Mr Fred Harrison, a campaign is in progress locally aimed at securing contributions to the Theodore Roose velt Memorial Fund, which will be devoted to establishing a fitting me morial to that great American Theo dore Roosevelt, The sum sought for this commendable purpose is $5,000,000 with which it is proposed to erect a memorial building at Washington. D, C. and also establish a national me morial park at Oyster Ray. L. 1. In the event of the full sum being se cured, it is also planned to use a por tion of the fund for the endowment of a university for the teaching of Americanism. The movement in this direction was started shortly after Col Roosevelt’s death and resulted in the establishment of what is known as the “Roosevelt 'Memorial Association*” Mith forme* President Wm Howard Taft and fram er Supreme Court Justice Chas K. Closely following the announcement of the proposal to raise a fund to establish a memorial expressive of the regard in which Col Roosevelt was held by the American people, the movement speedily assumed a national aspect and culminated in the organ isation of the Memorial Association and a decision to conduct a National campaign between October 20 and 27 to raise the required funds through "free will”, or voluntary offerings. Owing to the departure of Mr O. J. Lomen, who previously had charge of the local campaign, the movement fell Into obeyance here until the appoint ment of Mr Harrison to the chairman - thfp on November 10th. As the cam paign in the States was over by that date the local campaign period was extended until November 15 in order to give the dtlsens of Nome full op portunity to help in the movement and (Continued on Page Eight) I. It is believed, however, that the exodus from the camps is the prelude to further disturbances and the authorities of practically every town in tie logging district are taking precautions. In a numlx-r of instances tin- ixnUus has led to the establishment of a form'of co-operation between the ollicials of the various logging camps and the police departments of the various towns, with the result that the depots and roads leading into a majority of the towns h, the western part of the state are under police surveillance. I'nder the surveillance system udopted by the towns, the I. W. W. will not be permitted to stop. Owing to the prospect that a great number will conic to Seattle, the police depart ment is being increased by the employment of numerous additional policemen.
