Entered in the Post Office in Nome as 2nd Class Matter MEMBER OF ASSOCIATED PRESS THE DEVELOP ALASKA PLAN The letter received Monday by The Nugget from Art Brown of Nome, conveys his viewpoints regard ing a question which is of the greatest interest to Nome and Seward Peninsula, particularly. Other parts of Al aska would be affected similarly, but in Nome and this section of the Territory, we are always on the lookout for possibilities of development of one of the greatest placer regions in the land. For thirty-five years this section has been produc ing great amounts of gold—only last season was ship ped through Nome the largest consignment of recent years—two million two hundred odd thousand dollars —but this is by no means the peak which could be reached by scientific development of our many resourc es, yet untouched and undiscovered. A comprehensive sketch of the plan now under promotion by Rex Beach, and which several Nomeites and other Alaskans have at various times brought to the attention of officials, is being prepared and we will be able to present it to the public in the near future. It is a constructive endeavor to develop a country whose natural handicaps make industry a hard row to hoe, and we are first, last and always, behind any honest effort to bring further prosperity and development of our section, and Alaska as a whole, to the front, for the benefit of Alaskans, who are trying to advance our Territory. For testing pumps re searchengineers of a large oil refining company have built a well 150 ft. deep in which pressures and other conditions of wells 5.000 feet deep can be simulated.
