INTERNATIONAL BASEBALL Centuries will pass before the world forgets the double play. Zimmerman-to-Bernstorff-to-von Eckhardt. It was to be closely followed by a triple, Kaiser Bill; to President Carranza to Emperor Yoshihito. Today’s dispatches indicate that the double succeed ed. but the umpire called a balk, and it looks like the kaiser, captain of this team, forgot to give Carranza the proper spring training and even neglected to sign tipi Yoshihito, star of the Far East, before the season opened. In the language of the game, the kaiser pulled a “bonehead play.” This international baseball game is getting a little too hot to suit American spectators and it would not be surprising if they commenced to throw pop bottles and cushions at the perpetrators of these raw plays. The United States never waged a war unless justice sanctioned. Let justice rule the decisions of our president and congress. When justice demands it America is prepared and willing to wage war with the support of a united nation.—(Illinois Staats Zeitung.) Keep cool. Say little or nothing. And if you must; speak, speak soberly and discreetly. Both Germany and the United States want peace based upon liberty, jus tice and unmolested life. The Germans may make mis takes, but they will not be guilty of wilful injustice against America.—(Chicago Sontag Post.) I Or course, today’s events cannot be taken lightly. But we are Americans and we know our duty. We must stand behind President Wilson. The nation must be solid. Ger man-Americans must work for peace and the suppression of irresponsible German utterances here.—(St. Louis Westliche Post, German.) AMPLYFYING THE MENU New York policemen think they can live on twenty five cents a day. They might be able to do so, but others could not.
