Councilman Dougherty is at Valdez on the grand jury and Councilman Chamberlain on the trail between here | and Anchorage. The other council men, with the exception of Torrey held an informal discussion of finance. Merrill A. Martin of the school hoard appeared and asked that the re maining $2,000 of the school budget and an additional $.‘100 be set aside for the schools before this council goes out of office. He explained that the board deplored the necessity of asking for more than the estimate but that the amount of fuel necessary and the expense on water and light had been higher than anticipated. A special meeting of the council will be held to consider this request as soon as Chamberlain returns. _ STWARD SNAPSHOTS Tom Neily, well known dog in usher, arrived from Anchorage over the trail last night. Owing to the general increase in the price of all brands of condensed milk, local dealers announce that they are forced to charge 25 cents for two cans until further notice. M. Trimberger of Marshall, left for the interior Sunday on his 1,200 mile mush. He will probably get a dog team at Anchorage.
