W. Bradley, of the A'us ka .kin Mining company, for on his Ic* isioi. rests the future of the famous j Treadwell mine, flooded by the caving 1 in of a stope in the “4OO workings. p R. Bradley, active head of the J Treadwell, and R. C.. Wayland, gen-! oral superintendent, view the situation in an optimistic light. Wayland tie-1 dares that it is not so serious as it seenvui at first, as the Ready Bullion! workings are in excellent condition, anti the situation in the other three workings which were flooded can be overcome by engineering. “Abating the flood m the workings is by no means an engineering impos sibility,” said he. “Whether the mine will be pumped out is entirely a mat ter of finance. It remains to be de cided whether the ore in sight and other conditions existing warrant the expense.” It is generally understood that two methods of continuing work are open. | One to build a cofferdam around the break and the other to abandon the flooded workings and drive a shaft' to lower levels than those recently : worked and take out ore from about the o,000-foot level on down. The present workings do not extend below the 2,700-foot level. Among the millions of dollars worth of material lost, either temporarily * or permanently, in the flooded work-1 ings, Superintendent Wayland mourns most of all for six new electric loco motives costing $4,500 each. keystoneTdrill TO BE USED ON WILLOW CREEK Harry Watson, who arrived in Idit arod recently from the Marshall dis trict, is reported to have completed arrangements for operating a Key stone drill on the lower reaches of Willow creek, in the Marshall district, during the coming summer. Shortly after the opening of navigation, it is stated, the drill will leave Iditarod in charge of an expert of the Yukon Gold company. The impression has been given wide publicity that the pay on Willow creek, from which some $200,000 was taken last summer, was confined to five claims only, and the statement had been made that this ground would be worked out during the coming sum mer. This is believed to be erroneous, as it is claimed that it will take at least three years to work out what ground has been opened up already. The be lief is general in Marshall that the pay on Willow creek extends far be low the present workings, as it is not thought reasonable that such rich de pos its should end so abruptly. Options have been obtained on some twenty-fivg claims on low’er Willow creek, and these will be prospected, with a view to dredging operations. Should the ground prove to contain a continuation of the Willow’ creek pay streak it will be of tremendous im portance to the Marshal camp.— (Iditarod Pioneer.) _JL._ We carry Symphony Lawn Station ary the Seward Drug Company. -4 Andy’s Express, phone Madison 143. -4 Stamps for sale at The Key. -4 2 C.
