SIMMERS VERY ILL, WRITES WIFE Friends of John Simmers, formerly a brakeman on the government rail road, have heard from Mrs. Simmers that he is in very poor health. He was sent out from here after becom ing a victim of tuberculosis and is now at his home in Xesson City, Mich. Simmers had been taking a treatment but came home May 7th in bad shape. _A_ T. AND T. CREWS REPORT PROGRESS Two small construction crews are at work out of Matanuska, one on the main line and the other on t^e branch, erecting permanent line. The crew on the main line at present consists of six men only, but as soon as camp cars are available the force will be i increased. The permanent construc tion work on the branch line ha* reached^'almer. The main line work consists of changes arourd the wye SEWARD SNAPSHOTS Mrs. Gertrude Hay, 1013 South Flower street, Fos Angeles, has writ ten to Seward looking for a long lost brother. His name is H. C. qj* Herod C. Smith. He is believed to be work ing in the mines in Alaska. —— F. E. Been left for Mile 40 this morning in company with R. J. Weir, engineer in charge. Been will hunt black bear while Weir will go on to Turnagain arm to confer with Chair man Edes* Charles G. Hubbard of Blue Bell mine returned home on the train this morning. —— Mr. and Mrs. John Gilpatrick and Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Meyers left on the train this morning for Moose Pass to spend the summer. —— J. Caylor and family have moved into the Fete Ogle residence on Sec ond avenue. C. F. Votaw arrived last night from Kenai to spend a few days in town. J. C. Tolman and A. H. Bryant have 1 gone to housekeeping in the Tolman cabin on Third avenue. Wayne Blue local agent of the Pa cific Steamship company has received word that all passenger boats for; Southeastern and Southwestern Alas-! ka will sail from Seattle at 10 o’clock in the morning instead of 9 o’clock in the evening as formerly. This does | not affect the sailing date of the ves sels. at Matanuska with the object of sav ing several hundred feet of expensive cable in crossing under the tracks. On the Seward division stakes for the permanent line have been placed: from Mile 52 to Mile G2. Material is being distributed from the cache at Mile 62 1-2 for the work in this sec tion.
