No. 48 CONSTRUCTION j ON COAL LINE Progress Report Shows Advance of Work on Branch to C'hickaloon. Steam shovel No. 1, at Station 1150, on the branch line, moved aboutj 8000 yards of rock during the week. The material was used for riprap be tween Stations 1 * »70 and 1470. About 250 yards were hauled to the Knik River bridge to be used in bank protection. Extra gang No. 1» continued surtac ing ^he |E^ka Crook brunch. TUflis work is now about 50 per cent com plete. Steam shovel No. 2, working at Mile 166, on the main line, moved ap proximately 10.000 cubic yards of gravel, 6000 yards of which were used for bank widening, and 4000 yards for ballast. Extra gang No. 1 was occupied the entire week in full ticing and surfacing track, prepara tory to ballasting between Stations 60117 and 6404. Extra gang No. 4 raised track from Station 5620 to Sta tion 5720. Extensive repairs to the Eagle River bridge are under way. COOPERATIVE WORK BEGINS % 1 Letters Sent Out to Farmers and I Dealers to Insure Sajle of % i Produce. ^ The land and industrial department of the A. E. C. will shortly commence sending out form circular letters to all homesteaders and farmers* and all job bers and merchants along the line served by the railroad from Seward to Fairbanks. The letters will request the producers to state how much and what products they can grow this summer and the merchants* will be asked to state what quantities of such goods they will be able to dispose of. Data , will then be compiled and the farmers and merchants put in touch with each other.
