Tracts Here May be Completed Now Purchasers of lots within the Fed eral and ClitT additions here who have not paid their full purchase price on lots obtained at the land sales Septem ber 11 and 21, 1916, are advised by the land and industrial department that their final payments are due at the land office at Juneau within one year of the date of purchase. The date of purchase appears upon exe cuted copies of the applications which were returned to purchasers, but per sons who cannot find the date upon which their payment is due are advised to send their money in so it will arrive within one year of the sales date. In the Anchorage and Matanuska townsites, one-third the amount bid for any lot is paid at the sale and the remainder of the purchase price divided into five equal installments, payable annually. These payments, made on the anniversary of the date of the sale, must be made to the re ceiver, U. S. Land Office, at Juneau. Lots sold at Nenana are paid for in a similar manner, with deferred payments made likewise. Nenana is situated in the Fairbanks land dis trict, however, and payments are made to the land office receiver at Fairbanks instead of at Juneau. -* ... MINING NOTES The Mathison mining company at Hope is working two shifts this sea son and good clean-ups are reported. Plenty of rain in that section has pro vided sufficient water to work the ground on a more extensive scale than for several seasons. The combined output of the Braden and Kennecott mines in June was 10, 850.000 pounds of copper, against 13, 598.000 in May, 12,282,000 in April, 11.018.000 in March, 10,540,000 in Feb ruary and 11,878,000 in January. It is stated that the falling off in produc tion was due to labor troubles. The Nome Nugget states that Frank Shaw and Charles Carlson have begun a cut on Rock creek and have set up their boxes to sluice tung sten for shipment to the Outside. A % ~ W. E. Bartholf, Fred Laubner, Gene Bartholf, Charles E. Herron and the Isaac Brothers, have bought and tak en over the Willow Creek Mining com pany’s properties in the Willow Creeb mining district, and will reorganize the company and preparations are be ing made for doing extensive develop ment work on this property. The ore which shows free gold and a little tellurium, 1000 pounds of ore from this property, is being made as a test run at the Mabel mine mill. The Treadwell Company has recent ly taken a bonr on mining claims in the vicinity of Auk Bay and is prepar ing for extensive development work. Alaska COLD STORAGE i EXPANSION; — New Company Enters Southeastern Field—Several Canneries Proposed — The following report on fisheries in Alaska has just been issued by the Seattle Chamber of Commerce Alaska Bureau: Fisheries Reports of the Alaska run of sal mon indicate a light run in Bristol Bay and along the Alaska Peninsula, and an exceptionally heavy run in Chatham and Icy straits Southeastern Alaska. Plant For Lisianski Straits L. H. Wakefield has purchased the holdings of the Dodd-Cann Co., on Li sianski Straits. A new company is be ing formed for the purpose of con structing a large herring curing plant, where Scotch cured herring will be packed. The plant will also include a large freezer for fresh fish and bait, oil and fertilizer plant and a two-line salmon cannery. Cannery for Cook Inlet The Katchemak Fish Company plans to erect a salmon cannery this fall at Halibut Cove, Katchemak Bay, Cook Inlet. This company also plans to put up fish by new methods success fully adopted by the Norwegians. Opens Branch at Juneau The Glacier Fish Co. has opened a buying agency at Juneau with Oliver Drang of the Juneau Cold Storage Co., as local agent. New Plant Near Petersburg The Glacier Fish Co. is construct ing a parge plant at Scow Bay near Petersburg. The plant will include a dock, mess and bunk houses, ware house and cold storage building with a freezing capacity of twenty tons of ice per day. Fish Plant Near Sitka J. H. Long and other Juneau men have formed a company to establish a clam and salmon cannery near Sitka. _ A V SOCIAL CHAT Coming north from her home in Seattle, Miss Lillian May Eardley be came the bride yesterday of Benja min V. High, first-class private U. S. A. in the signal corps, and they will make their home here. The ceremony was performed by U. S. Commissioner Whittlesey at the home prepared for his bride by Mr. High, in the residence at First and Adams street. The bride wore a sim ple dress of white crepe de chine, trimmed with silver. Following the wedding the bridal couple were guests of friends and an informal luncheon was given. —♦V— Mrs. R. J. Weir will entertain this evening in honor of Mrs. Shepard, at the bungalow of Mr. and Mrs. Baliaine and Mr. and Mrs. Sauers at Woodrow. A ♦ Rev.
