IlKud.d Thrrn Thursday.
At th? usual weekly routing of th? city
council last night there were present Presi
dent Hiilop, Messrs. Keelir, O'Br'en.
Guthrie anJ Clancy. Mr. Keelar, on be
half of the finance committee, to which
had [yen referred the business of collecting
the assessments, submitted a form for a
"quarterly tax and license receipt." and 1
pointed out that these blanks coul J be used
for peddlers' licenses as well as for receipts |
for taxes. I here lolloped some conversation
In regard to peddlers, and it was resolved
to tax everv one of them. The form sub- 1
milted by the finance committee was ac
cepted, and these receipt books are to be
in the hands ol the collectors on Thursday, J
so that thev will be abl* to report and
make return at next Monday's meeting. '
It was resolved that the monev so collected. 1
pending the absence of Treasurer Kalem,
should be placed in the hands of President
H'Slop.

a firm conviction of the future growth of !
the city that he has sent up F M. Wood- 1
ruff, who is now here, to establish a branch '
establishment, and he is now in seirchof a !
commodious house for his family. Mr. :
