Equal Taxation. KMTOlt Sun: Allow me to call the attention of jour readers to a subject of great importance to them, and one which has heretofore received but little attention. A great deal has been said i I n the past two years, and justly, about the need of economy in the administra tion of county affairs, It seems to me equnlh desirable, at least, that a fair and equitable assessment of the taxable wealth of the county should lie made, i It is notorious that the so-called heavy taxpayers of the county have been for the most part its light taxpayers in fact: and many small property owners have been as negligent, to use the mildest term possible, in making their returns for taxation. It seems to me wo have already allowed this evil to exist too long. I believe our boat d of supervisors would bo willing to do its whole duty, butitisvery hard for them to overthiow the precedent of years in such a matter without some assurance of approval from theirconstituents. To this latter end, petitions will be circu lated in Flagstaff and Williams within a few da.s asking that the board of equalization comply strictly with the law in fixing the value of property, without favor to any individual or in stitution. From a personal investiga tion I can testify that the assessment this j ear is a much fairer one, on the whole, than those of the past few years at least, and in many instances where property has been given in at too low a figure the assessor has made notation to that effect. It only remains now for the citizens of the county to give the needed endorsement, and I am satis lied the board will give us an impartial equalization of the taxes. This is an evil which exists everywhere, it is true, but there is no reason why It should not be remedied. Let every good citizen lend his name and his in fluence to this much-needed end.
