IN past years in this county It has been the disposition of many Republi cans to vote for some Democratic can didate. This year the Republican will vote the straight ticket, and if he does the entire ticket will be elected. The territorial central committee of the Republican party of Arizona has adopted the national flag, unfurled, as the vignette to be printed on the top of the ballots assigned to the Republi can party as a distinctive heading for the ticket. The majority of our Democratic ex changes carry the name of Mark Smith im delegate to congress. Then there are others that do not endorse either Smith or WINon.and other Democratic exchange lighting each other over tile problem of who is who, as in the case of Smith anil Wilson. Alfred Ruiz Is again b.ick in the Republican fold. He attended the Democratic convention as a delegate from Apache county and hecurne o disgusted with the action of that con vention that he hurried home and de clared himself done with that party. The heights and distances of some well-known points have been been measured in a recent survey. Taking the depot floor as a standard, at G,867 feet above ea level, the sidewalk in front of P. R. Weatherford's residence Is 8 feet higher or 0,875 feet. The floor of the obervatorv is 343 feet higher yet, or 7,220 feet above sea level, and distant 4,800 feet in an air lint, as the bird (lies. By road It is probably within a few feet of a mile. Agassiz Peak, up which Doyle's trail goes, is 5,455 feet above the sidewalk In front of Mr. Weatherford's, or 12, 330 feet above the sea, within about 5 feet. Its distance in an air line from that, point is 47,222 feet. From the Methodist church the air line is ex actly I) miles. The lower peak to the east, Fremont, is 405 feet lower than Agussiz, and distant 100 feet less than one mile, making It 11,1)25 feet above the sea and 8i miles from the Metho dist church. Humphrey's Peak, the highest point, is 1 miles from Agavilz and 270 feet higher, making it 12,606 feet above the sea and 10 miles from the Methodist church. By road, of course, these distances from town are two or three miles longer. A. E.
