Saturday Phoenix voted in favor of the construction of a municipal water supply system and for the issuance of $300,000 bonds to pay for it. A two thirds vote wag necessary. This was accomplished in all four of the city wards. The total vote was 1072, of which the opposition polled only 336. The net majority was 21. Much excitement was manifested over the election. The water com pany has spent $50,000 in the last two months replacing old pipe and was accused of hiring peon voters to sup port its interests. Saturday's election is the third that has been held for a similar purpose. An attempt to voto bonds last spring failed by thirty votes. It is under stood that the present plant is bonded for over $400,000. These bonds are held in the East, but practically all the stock of the corporation is held by Gen. M. H. Sherman, of Los Angeles. It is designated to offer Sherman the present value of his system. Failing of acceptance of this offer, a parallel system is to be constructed, of ma terially broader scope. It is expected that cheap electric power will be se cured from the Tonto Basin dam. Sherman's franchise runs for eleven years yet, carrying a contract for that time with the city for about $4,000 a year for fire hydrant rental. A Strong Ledge.
