the case are just these: it
is a necessity with us to
have our goods or to have

floundering about, "stuck." in the
mire of dust. The cars are jamming
against each other, boxes and barrels
and packages are crashing over the
platform and beinij slammed into
wagons. All about, great teams are
wending thir tortoise pace through
oceans of dust that rises at a touch
and falls in thick coats upou every
thing and everybody. .Men are whip
ping anil yel ling at their teams and
at one another. Here and there stand
groups of bronzed w agou-mast"is, iu
blue, woolen shirts, pants, belt and
pistol, top-boots and broad hats, spec
u hit in among themselves on the
freight business as they oversee their I
ineu loHumir into iiuu uimmis.
Here stands a box-
out. " btaire Ollice:" there
car labelled "Post Ollice," at a dis
tance ot tifty yards trom the track,
strung along in a line parallel to it,
is the " town," composed of eight or
ten tents, of all sizes and shapes.
One, the largest, is labelled the
" Branch Hotel," in great flaming
red letters. A piece of rough board
011 which is painted " Store," done in
charcoal, and nailed to tne top of a
high post, informs us of the character
of another place. The others are nil
"Saloon," "Free and Uasy," "Whisky
Straight," "Gem," and either charac
teristic names applied to Arizona's
dispensatories of what is usually taken 1 '.

caught our advance, and never left it
as we plodded through the dust and

selves and fell to his sides.
