Ve hereby notify out' friends and the public generally that from this time forth we will cease to sell for credit on any terms whatever. "We are aware that in order to do this we will have to sell cheaper than our neigh bors, and we are prepared to do so. As we arc building we arc very much pressed for cash, and therefore it will bo better for us to sell for cost than to sell on ever so snore a time, no matter how good the buyer. The facts in the case are just these: it is a necessity with us to have our goods or to have the wherewith to buy more. Singe driver testified; that lief as the driver cif the stae;e that ww rob bed. Two passengers, AV. M. Bfank- ertihip and AVm. S. Head Ktfe ni board the former as Wells, Fargo & Co's., messenger. I was driving aloiisr in a walk when two men rose up out of the brush and ordered a halt. SJiootinir commenced, shots between the messenger and one of the robbers. The one who did the fir ing stood about fifteen feet from the otVJ wheeler. The two highwaymen stood about five feet a part; both were armed. The first shot was fired ifter the command halt was given it was too dark, to distinguish, any. th'iiar. Tim man with the Kun fired first, uflL'r one stepped ahead of the leaders, The shots were close to gethcr. The robber wanted to know why iu h I, I commenced shooting when told to halt, lie ordered me to throw otit the express box and mail which t did, telling him that was all ; was then ordereil to go on. Only saw two men. Hlatikcnship shot twice. The' second shot from the ground wounded Illankenship, who was sittin.C beside me, I ordered Hlankenship not to fire, it was put. ting me in to close a place. Couldn't tell whether cither were (naskctl. Cross examination. It was be tween 1 1 atxl 13 o'clock. Owing to the darkness I could'nt ace mucli of the men. It. C. MCDONALD. Under Sheriff, testified that he was awakened by the watchman and told tii.it the stage was robbed. Saddling my horse and obtaining assistance I went t the scene of (lie robbery. Followed the tracks and found the express-box and mail sacks at a point about 101) yards distant where their horses had been tied. Here they cut the mail sacks anil broke open the box. Followed horse tracks two miles west; found large sack, and I he principal letters scattered around. It was an open country. Tom Ilodgors was with me all the time. Following the tracks five or six miles where it joined the mail the outside ditch, thence to Tweed's place at the lower end of town. Be lieving by this time that I recognized the horses, I sent Kodgers to sec if the horses were there, again taking up the track. I followed it to where it crossed the ditch this side ot 1'etc Nelson's ranch ; stopped at the house near tlnee hours, then went to Bill Osborncs and staid an hour; here joined by 1 lodgers, went to the house of Mr. Ilickey arrested tlje defendants and brought them to town. When 1 left the tracks tit Mr. Tweeds, I re. turned for the largo mail sack, and on the way met Mr. Hickey the old man ami recognized the tracks of I lie horse he was riding us the verv same I had been following from the scene of the robbery. One of the robbers was bare-foot and put on his boots at the place the hi rscs were tied while the other evidently had bags w rap ped around his feet. There were cither three men, or else they chang ed boots. The heel of the boot was small and very long, and slender. On the trail saw, foot prints twice I noticed Hit-key's boots when 1 arrested hjm and arc the same kiml of boots as would make the tracks found. Both defendants were at the house of Mr. Hickey when the arrest was made. Cross examination. I did not search on the premises of Mr. Hickey, for any blanket that would corres pond with the piece found. He told me !:e had no saddle. Measured the tracks where the horses were lied where the sucks were found: THOMAS O KlHiKRS. Tcol ilied that he went iu ipiest of I he stage robbers with Under Sheriff M-Donald, (a greater pol l ion of his testimony is similar to AlrPonalil s j up to time thry separated.) Went to ! Hickey 's house, arrived about 8 ! oVloi k. Defendant Hickey was ly. ! in ; down ; did not see a horse at bi'ift tlic frarl!: 1 lj;rf hern following The fr!c!is I fouoif seemed to la abotil the same size,, one, thaleft fore foot was square acfoss, the to. Tin track was mad e by tt fiorse withont a shoe. I think tfcere were three men concerned itt the robbery. I was asked to examine (lis horses track by a gentleman. It .was Mr. Campbell. In the cross examilmtian, witness said, I iloutt track of fh horse Hickey vs riyfing, is the famo that the robbers fia'dy I tracked the large bare-foot horse north ol where Kutirbnrg lives a very little. MliS. KLIZA M. RrMBCT.G. Testified that, she had seen the de fendant Price Ilickey a great many times. My residence is close to the road. On the night of the lltU saw two men passing along the road. Can't say, possibly that one waa de fendant, Imt thought so at the time. I heard the Iicrrses returning, the dg ran offf. Could not tell exactly what time. It was some time before day, the moon was up a little. I recognized the two horses as being the same that went down n the even ing, and the riders as being the same that roile the horses In the evening. They were going north. I was sleep ing out doors, one of them spoke ti the dog not very loud. I thought it was tile voice of Price Hickey, though I could not say it was him. Cross examination. Never said I saw Ilickey pass in the night lime;' said I saw a man who I supposed! to' be Ilickey ; distance from house to' road, between fifty nnd sixty feet. Thought it was Jllckey'a horse; never said postively ll was . Tb,ink it was the same horse, I hate seen it so often. The horse wag going in a slow walk, in the evening: In. the morning going as if he had been rid den. It was twilight horses first passed; did not say they were Hick ey 's horses: Said I thought they were. J have nothing against the Ilickey family. Henry Garfiss' testimony was sim ilar to that of McDonald and Rogers. He thought the track of the horse ridden by one of the robbers was made by the Ilickey horse. The horse in front of the building is the Ilickey horse, (examined by Court and witness). The horse in front f this building is the horse wheee tracks I saw measured near the scene of the robbery. I have had many years experience In tracking herses. I.OCI8A E. MARTIN Testified; I know Frank M ahsw. In the forenoon of the 11th Inst., he ret a saddle belonging to Mr. Campbell at Mr. Thompson's house ; Mr. Carnf. bell came and got it. WILSON JC. I irot my saddle at Mr. Hiekey's oh Saturday the 13th about noon. Have not seen my saddle blanket since the 6th or 7th of the month. It was brown in color. My wife loaned the saddle during my ab sence from home. I don't know whether Mr. Thomsotf gst ay saddle blanket or not. NANCY J. He asked for a rifle. sV- j ing that he and Mayhew were going hunting. They were going for the meal, uot fun; could get 30 cents a-' pound for the meat when dried. I had no gun. HOKATIO WrtAETON. I am employed in Morgan's, store; know Hickey and Mahcw saw them in the store on the evening of tho robbery; said they were ffoing hunt ing :wantcd to borrow a needle own ' they said. Thev wanted to Imv" if- I said it was not, for sale. They then' asked for pistol balls. V()l.. H. TOWNER.' Assisted in tracking the robbers., found a belt and scabbariT.
