SS Corner of Washington and Center Streets. S Peralta, in I iWlB Lb m ivl b r 6 TBI 1 3 q Immense New .- . THE PHCEXIX HERALD. HBSI-WEKKLY KDITIOX. Saturday. July 19. 1M7. TONTO TOPICS. The Farming and Mining Outlook- CORHEBPOXDKCE OF THE HERALD. The Fourth was generally celebra ted in the vicinity of Camp licno, by the people of Tonto Basin who gathered at the residence of Tom C'line, about five miles below Camp Reno. It wa; pa-s?d in dancing ami singing, and tn destroying the numer ous good dishes prepared for dinner by Mesdames Ilook, Cline and Ad ams, and a jolly time was enjoyed by all. The long expected rain has not yet arrived, though the sky, for the past four days has been covered with heavy Cumulo-stratus eloud banks. The feed all along the creek is very good. All the stock we have seen in this pjift of the county is in excellent condition. Although the grass seems very dry, the cattle and horses seem to do very well oil it and keep in good condition, 1 here arc now on Tonto creek, cattle Variously estimated at from one thousand to fifteen hundred head and there is room for as many more without crowding. Although the main creek is nearly dried up, there are springs in many of the can ons, that would furnish suflic-Hnt wa ter for two to three hundred head of stoek. The Indian scare has about abated. Since the killing of the seven Dre-Sh.-ty Apaches by the Indian scouts from San Carlos and McDowell, we hear of no more depredations, though fresh "siga" has been seen in several localities. The people of Green val ley. Pine valley, Little and Big Bound valley and the East Fork of the Verde are feeling more secure in the possession of their stock, and fanning is being carried on to a lim ited extent bv several of the residents jlliiug Tonto, among whom are iles srs Adams, near Camp Reno and Samuels, near the forks of Tonto and Wild Rye. Both of these gentlemen have nice gardens. Mr. Adams hav lng raised a good crop of barley hay this season. The Mazatzal Company's mill win resume crushing us soon as the rain falls in sufiicient quantity to supply it with water. Al. Sciber & Co. have sunk fifty feet on their Bonanza and find the Jedge looking better at that depth than above, carrving considerable tiuantities of free gold. Parties from live City are said coining out to in poct tjiis property with a view of purchasing. The Mouse and Rouss mines ar looking extremely well, the mailt kSge having been found in the taurinel wlipeh cuts it at a depth of iifjout one iiurulsed and twetity.live feet. The Maukiiw and Stroud mine, xaiJ tc lie t he lx-eit in the district, is l)fing gradually 'feclopel as the -ve:ither permits. E'V-ery indication of permanency is lo lie ecn in thi mine. The ledge is hJki4 eight feet iu width. Mr.RayitUKid L'lidw Bil ly) having examined it, jrrtismiiiccd it Hj1s tno.-t promising outlook for a pc-rniifnent uimc he had teen u the vicinity.
