Harry Hoben is putting a new ce ment foundation under one of his houses on Third street. An addition to the house is also being made. Pete Ogle and Henry Thody are clearing their lots of stumps and will build substantial cottages in the near future. Mrs. Pete Anderson has been con fined to her home with an attack oi rheumatism and cold. SEWARD CEMETERY WILL BE CLEARED HE It is desirable that the Seward cem. eetery be cleared of old grass and made nice appearing for Memorial ! Day. The Seward Light & Power Com pany has a large force employed on its improvements being made at the head of Lowell gulch. The pipe line is being extended nearly half a mile farther up the glch beyond the old slide; and a cement dam and intake house are being constructed. When these improvements are compipeted at a cost of probably $15,000, the tight service will be uninterrupted by re curring slides and the turbine line will have a much great head. LISTEN! Lansdowne of the Episcopal church and Rev. Dunlap of the Methodist Episcopal. Rev. Lansdowne will preach; a solo will be sung by Mr. George Mann, and special music will be delivered by the choir. All are invited to these serv ices. PAINT GOVERNMENT PROPERTY On another page of this paper will be found a call for bids for painting government property in Seward. The depot is to be repainted and the gov ernment cottages in the reserve re papered and revarnished. A freight train came in last night bringing several passeigers. Capt. Art Husbick brought the B. F. M. in port this week with 11,000 pounds of halibut, which were sold to the San Juan cold storage. The B. F. M. is having slight repairs made be-1 fore returning to the banks. The gasboat North Star which ar rived from Kodiak this week was chartered by H. O. Roberts to be used by the Kodiak Island Fishing and Packing Company in their operations at Uganik. Mrs. A. H. McNeer and children will arrive in Seward on tonight’s train, from Fairbanks, where she has spent the winter as pianist at the Empress theatre in the inferior me tropolis. Mrs. McNeer is an accom plished pianist and musician. The halibut schooner Gladstone, owned by Charles Tecklenberg and Charles Benson, local business men, arrived in Ketchikan last week where she disposed of 40,000 pounds of hali- j but. F. B.
