Mr. Smith believes that among the most important measures, aside from se curing his appropriations, are the creation of a centralized board, com posed of representatives of the Interi or, Commerce and Agricultural Depart ments. This board will have the pow er of disposing of many matters that now must go to Washington for con sideration by the Secretaries of the three departments affected, with the idea of expediting transactions be tween the public and those who con trol conserved natural resources. It is Mr. Smith's impression that the members of the departmental board will be named from men now identi fied with the various departments in Alaska and not selected independent of this personnel. The other measure which is looked y to to grant relief from a hitherto in tricate situation is the law permitting of the purchase of five-acre tracts of the public domain. This will permit those desiring a site for store, saw mill, etc., to acquire a title by pur chase at $2.50 per acre. It was Mr. Smith’s impression that the law was applicable to any part of the public domain not included in the right-of way of the Alaska Railroad. Hitherto holders of such sites did so only as squatters. Discussing his season’s program, Mr. Smith says it will be confined to the continuance of rehabilitation of road bed and construction of steel bridges to replace wooden structures, and fill ing in trestles. Asked if he contemplated discontin uing the commissary, from which employes of the railroad at outlying points are supplied with the necessi ties of life, he said said the commissa ry would remain as it is. Among the improvements contem plated was that of the river steamer service. The boat leaving Nenana will go to Marshall every other trip, and the boat to Holy Cross with main tain the same kind of schedule. The N. C. company boat will maintain reg ular service between Marshall and St. Michaels. This allows of opportunity for sleeping ashore at Marshall be fore proceeding. There will be no more silk pajama parades at the Florida State College for Women in Tallahassee. Eeac term, the girls have paraded in the moonlight, clad in beautiful pajamas, made and bought especially for the occasion. The parades were confin ed to the campus and immediate vi cinity. Now, however, college offi cials and students have decided that the celebrations should be eliminated. “First find your type. Then dress accordingly.” If any girl will remember this axi om, she can dress well on a very small sum of money, says Madge Kennedy ,the actress. “The main idea is to find the best there is about you, play up these and submeage your defects,” she explains. “If a girl has pretty legs, one can hardly blame her for weearing knee length skirts, but if she hasn’t she shouldn’t wear short dresses just to be in style.
