REED, Prop. SALONS ASKS WHITE In last week’s issue of Stroller’s Weekly, published in Juneau, appear ed the following comment and letter: "If there is any truth in an article which appeared in the Vancouver, B. C. Province of July 17 in the form of a signed communication, the American Legion of Alaska that conducted the flag contest, the Territorial Legisla ture that appropriated $1,000 to give the winner, Benny Benson, a little breed pupil of the Jesse Lee Home at Seward, a good time and, in fact, all the people of Alaska have had one put over on them. “The article which appeared in the Province of last Sunday reads as fol lows: “‘Sir:—In The Sunday Province of July 8 appeared a press report which stated that someone in Alaska h^d de signed a flag consisting of the Great Dipper and North Star, which had been adopted by the Alaska Territory. “ ‘This design for a flag was made by myself two years ago and present ed to for entry in the Native Sons of Canada flag competition. The news papers of Vancouver, British Columbia, as well as many sections of Canada and the United States, gave wide pub licity to my flag design. It was shown in the columns of a large numberr of newspapers, yet at this late stage I find credit given to someone who plagarized my ideas. “ ‘My wife also entered a flag design in the competition, which showed the Union Jack in quarter, with a golden maple leaf on a silver snn and the Royal Cross of St. George on the fly. Maybe someone will copy this also and take credit for originality. “ ‘Do you know what happened to the flag competition of the Native Sons of Canada? I have never heard of any result being announced. “‘WILLIAM SIMPSON, “ ‘En route to Peace River by auto from New Westminster.’ ” AT THE HOTELS VAN GILDER R. F. Ericksen, Seward: Mr. and Mrs. C. P.
