S. S. Boxer at wholesale prices, an nounce the Alaska department of the Bureau of Education. Five hundred reindeer will be* slaughtered under the Government supervision of superintendents and reindeer supervisors from the herds of .Kivalina, Point Hope, Kotzebue and Wales, Alaska. These deer will be hung for proper bleeding, the hides removed, and the carcasses cooled from 4S to 60 hours or longer, allowing the animal heat to escape. It is then -wrapped in new cheese cloth with burlap covering and plac ed in cold storage and frozen in the cold storage compartments of the U. S. S. Boxer. The carcasses average about 130 pounds, dressed weight. The U. S. S. Boxer is expected to call at ports along the southern and southeastern coast of Alaska between October 25' and November 10 to make deliveries of reindeer meat ordered through this office in response to this announcement. In quantities of more than 1,000 pounds, they are offering this meat to Alaska cealers at the price of 15 cents per pound, from which sales the proceeds, above actual cost of marketing, go to the native reindeer companies from whose herds the deer were slaugh tered. Gerhard Johnsen, contractor, who £ erecting the new Territorial school 1 i in the Mission district, began pour ing tar on the roof today. H. V. Hoben and a crew of men were busily engaged throughout the day clearing up the Masonic plot in the new Seward cemetary. John Slater, well known Moose Pass resident, arrived in town last night. C. A. McDougall, foreman for the Bureau of Public Roads, Moose Pass, arrived in Seward last evening. The S. S. Starr, of the San Juan Fishing & Packing Co., Capt. O. A.
