VISITORS ARE INVITED
With the large number of prominent citizens in* Seward, j
detained on account of weather conditions along the
Alaska Railroad, tomorrow’s Chamber of Commerce
luncheon and business meeting should be of particular en
joyment
President Leon Urbach takes this’mean* of extend
ing a cordial invitation to all visitors to attend the lunch
eon at the Seward Grill, tomorrow at 12 o’clock.
Its an ill storm but what doesn’t do some town along
the Alaska Railroad some good.
Notable among the recommendations made at the
Alaska Game Commisssion session, now under way in
Juneau, is the rseolution drawn up asking for the approv
al of the Alaska office, by the Bureau of Biological Sur
vey, before collecting permits be issued to museums.
This is the first opportunity Seward has had to en
tertain travelers for four years. Though an enforced
layover there is lots to see and do providing one wants
action.
A FINE PERSONNEL
The new line-up of the Alaska Game Commission looks
* like a winner. Chief Terhune has surrounded himself
with a personnel all of whom are level headed chaps. One
of these men, in Seward for some days past, Oddie Hall
son, in charge of the Kuskokwim region, is a fair type of
the fine calibre of men Terhune has working with him.
Seward folks will be sorry to see him leave town but duty
beckons.
A man identified as Joseph Conoway was found in
Buffalo, suffering from loss of memory, but he will be in
worse trouble if he regains it. Ten women living in four
different states claim him as husband.
Some of the politicians appear to still believe that al
though Mr. Coolidge does not choose to run for another
term he might be induced to stand for it.
A VERY BRIGHT IDEA
Now that the Alaska golfing season will soon be to
fore again why not lay out a course down among the
famous Alaska Valley of Ten Thousan Smokse. Surely
there must be holes large enough there to make a hole
in one.
That fellow who killed another for reading movie
sub-titles aloud will hardly be able to make a convincing
insanity plea, but may get off on the ground of justifiable
homicide.
If we get that big Navy we shall need not only a
Chief of Operations, but a Chief of Explanations as well.
Prohibition is eight years old. Just the age to begin
splitting things wide open.
Presidential timber is the only kind you can conserve
by thinning out.
It appears that some women get married only as a
preliminary to acquiring the facination which is supposed
to attach to a “dashing young widow.”
A fSllow begins to get old when he ceases to wish he j
were older, and stays young so long as he is glad he isn’t
any younger.
Prohibition may have made a few millionaires, but
it has kept a few million from feeling like one.
T
RECOMMENDATIONS ARE
MADE TO COMMISSI
! The first recommendation from in
dividuals to be placed before the
Alaska Game Commission session at
Juneau, says the Empire, was made
when E. M. Axelson and T. M. Italio,
of Yokutat, appeared before the board,
recommending minor changes be made
in that vicinity.
The changes asked for include 15
days earlier opening for takin of
mink and an earlier date for the open
ing of migratory bird season.
Owing to the fact that Yakutat and
its vicinity is in District No. 2, where
the present existing seasons are ap
parantly satis^aotofjy, the Commiss
ion did not consider it advisable to
make the changes suggested and Mr.
Alexson and Mr. Italio were agree
able when this fact was made known
to them.
ROTARY HIT A SNAG
The lotary on the southern divi
sion crashed into something S-atur
day night which put it on *he sick
list for a number of hours. It is said
to be back on the job again digging
snow with the fury like one possess
ed.
The temperature at Tunnel this
morning registered five above.

The Gay
Deceiver
A very clever picture story of Paris and European life, full of
fascinating and dramatic mixups ,
Is it right to leave a puritanical wife who be—
lieves all joy is sin? How much should a man
put up with? And if he jumps from the ice-box
into the fire who is to blame?
From an austere woman, to King of French
Bohemians, is a big swing, and where does he
land on the rebound? Is there such a thing as a
Good—Bad Man?
There are blackmailers and everything else to round the story
out into an extra interesting play. And the cast was specially
selected to portray the parts
So her parents can’t have the marriage annuled
the young groom does a Romeo act of climbing
to her bedroom and forceably stays all night.
