We will venture the assertion that the Missouri politician who has just made his annual grandstand play hasn't the back bone or the ability to develop a mine. He is but one of the army eating at the public trough and always ready to dig in where there appears to be more fees. His bugaboo order will scare no one familiar with the facts and the propaganda that is being spread. A primary is a device for choosing among secondary and tertiary individuals. LONG OVERLOOKED Mining has been overlooked since the war. Now the West and Alaska is on the verge of a new boom in this stupendously profitable industry. Strong companies are i>eing formed to develop preat potential producers. The investor and speculator finds an outlet for his activities in the development of new mining properties. Mayor Thompson of Chicago said that within 60 days after he is returned to office he would have the crooks run out of Chicago. Instead of that he seems to be on the run himself. The real sea lords are in the middle west, for cargoes for all oceans originate there. ■ j . A politician is unsually anyone on the side of the oppo sition. Whether one’s business last year was successful de pends upon whether one is talking to a prospective buyer or the income tax collector. The diplomatic way of saying it is that ‘‘the Italian government has made representations to Austria over the alleged overtures of the latter named power concern-, ing the proposed Italianizing of Tyrol.” But in other words, Mussolini is sore as a boiled owl. Talk is cheap, and too much of it will make one feel cheaper. For Travel Comfort Going East, seasoned trav elers always choose the Northern Pacific.
