LET US WING OUR WAY
Seward should not be content with crawling along
the ground. It should get in step with the spirit of the
times and take to the air for quicker action and astound
ing results.
Aviators have come thru here and looked over the
ground where Seward has a half-baked landing field;
one of those fields laid down by Nature and a kindly j
Providence. They express great surprise that the city
has not done something to iron out the few inequalities
that exist, but which are slight and insignificant com
pared to other fields in Alaska which have been prepar
ed at considerable outlay of money.
They declare that a field and possibly a light will be
an invitation to the men of the air who may come here
from the Interior with hurry-up passengers to catch a |
boat. They say that the town could well support an am
phibian plane for trips North, East, Westward and Ko
diak Island way. A seaplane could land on the waters’
of Resurrection Bay, but it would be necessary to have 1
a level field for landing in rough weather.
Another, year has slipped by with nothing accom
plished in this regard. Seward is sadly behind the rest j|
of towns in the Territory in the matter of aviation; and
there is no excuse for it excepting laxity on the part of
Seward’s citizens.
Experienced mining operators know that the surest
road to success is to get a good property and honestly
develop the same. The man who knows his business will
not misrepresent the venture that he is financing.
Some people are able to go straight up in the air
without the aid of a helicopter.
