Plague Kills Herds Russian Reindeer — UREK, Siberia, Dec., 10, (A1)-Santa may have difficulty finding enough reindeer for his sleigh next Christ mas unless a mysterious plague that has broken out among the animals on the frozen Siberia tundras can be mastered. Half of the herds in the Tazovsk region are said to have perished, and veterinarians sent to the area returned unable to ascertain eithei the cause or the cure of the plague. Japanese Soldiers Get $3 Every Month. TOKYO, Dec., 10, (/P)—The army and navy have drawn up new paj scales which, if approved by the j diet in this winter’s session, will in crease the monthly wage of private soldiers and seamen by 75 cents. This is a boost of 33 percent over the present wage and will give Ja^ • ares:- soldiers and sailors the equiv olent of $3 for tobacco and bee: each month. The new scale provides similar increase for non-commissioned of-I ficers the highest of whom receive about double a private’s pay. Gene Norton, an oldtimer of the Interior country, now a resident of Homer, arrived Saturday from Valdez and will await here the de parture of the Steamer Starr for the Westward country. W. P. Fuller, well known Lake Ke nai resident, was a week-end bus iness visitor in Seward. A. F. Davis, local business man, departed for Seattle on the Stea mer Victoria. Mr. Davis will join his family in California where they will remain over the winter. A GOOD TIME BY ALL Again the B. P.
