It will be located I on a high California mountain to be selected later. When it is considered that the present largest teles- j copes are able to explore the universe to a distance of 100 million light years, the depths to which the new monster! reflector may penetrate may be figured, but can not be ! grasped by the human mind. The most startling objects to be revealed will doubt less be connected with nearby heavenly bodies such as our moon and the planets of our solar system. The ques tion of whether life exists on Mars or Venus may possibly be answered. No statement as to the time required to build the new telescope has been made, but actual work will begin soon. The .scientific world, and laymen as well, will eagerly await the new knowledge which is bound to be obtained through its revelations. It may be poor sportsmenship but we cannot help but smile when we read these news dispatches coming through about the cold weather and storms in theEast and Middle West while up here in the alleged “cruel and frozen North” we are enjoying the bestest kind of cli mate.
