Samples of onyx, malichite, greenstone and mar ble, but particularly onyx, are wanted immediately by a New York friend of Uv G. Mr. Crocker is informed that his friend in the East has a market available and furthermore, is willing to finance such properties both in operation and trans portation. There’s a “but” attached to this, however,—a simple one though, same being that Mr. Crocker wants action AT ONCE! If any mining man or prospector knows of such de posits, by all means get in touch with him immediately; and in the meantime send him samples and full descrip tion and details. WELCOMES SIGNAL CORP The people of Kodiak regret the departure of the Navy radiomen whose service was at times almost more than could have been expected. But while re grets are in order, yet they are glad to know that the force of Signal Corps men, U. S. Army, will carry on. The Gateway is informed that for the short time the Signal Corps has been at Kodiak, the service they have rendered has been excellent. So in bidding adieu to the Navy lads Kodiak citizens extend a cordial wel come to the Army. ALASKA VS AFRICA Hunting licenses come higher in certain parts of Africa, than in Alaska, but the game is in keeping with the fee. In Tanganyika territory $250 is assessed for kill ing an elephant. In Uganda one may risk his life in this hazardous sport for less—$50 for the first ele phant killed and $100 for the second, two being the limit allowed any individual hunter. But why go to Africa and be eaten up by poison ous insects, perhaps be infected with that sleeping sick ness or maybe get bitten by a snake, when close by, in Alaska, they can get all the sportive thrills known to man in hunting the giant brown bear. And look at the difference in price! Of course we know Africa isn’t as bad as we have pictured. Its a good country, too. The following should serve as a warning to Alaskan dentists: Chloroform, gas or a stout rope should be em ployed as a precaution when working on a nervous pa tient, as Dr. Kulnic, dentist of Neenah, Wis., can pain fully testify. While drilling a tooth he struck a nerve, whereupon the patient’s fist involuntarily shot out, break ing one of the dentist’s -ribs. In addition to the newly acquired Alaska Indians, the Bureau of Indian Affairs now has 180,000 Indians, not including the Tammany tribe. first showing New Spring Hats—Also New Print Dresses $12.50 to $17.50 //VC. EARL OF AYLESFORO IN CENTRAL INDIA ON A TIGER HUNT India! The home of gallant, native gentlemen as ever graced a page of history. A. “Scotty’' MacPherson, Seward resident and host to the Earl, has received a letter from him to the effect he is looking forward with much pleasure his return to Alaska for another hunt, in 1932, and will endeavor to interest a number of friends to accompany him. To the many friends and ac quaintances of “Mike," the Earl, news of his anticipated return, will be extraordinarily good news. The Earl and his mother are guests of the Maharajah of Gwal ior, whose domain extends over a vast area of 25,000 square miles and having 3,000,000 subjects. It is said the finest tiger hunting in India is to be had on the Maharajah’s estates. One interest ing item in the Earl’s letter re vealed the magnificence and splendor of his host’s palace; the Earl said it required 10 minutes of walking from his room to that of his mother.
