SMALL FOREST BLAZE A considerable area of timber out on the Seward-Lake Kenai high way was burned by the forest blaze Monday with the result that were green foliage and lofty trees greet ed the eye previously there is now only fire-blackened stumps. The area is about three and one-half miles out from Seward near the Kern woodland camp. Rangers were called to the spot Monday and after putting in some strenuous | work they had the fire under con j tro1' Dr. A- R. Roberts, of the local dental office, left on the SS. Ad miral Watson on a brief business trip to Kodiak. — The SS- Admiral Watson is sched uled to return to Seward Sunday and will sail for Seattle and way ports sometime Sunday evening, according to the local office. An airplane soared into town to day from Anchorage. Sekimo, a stran ger in the Inlet town, copped first honors and set a new record by running the seven miles of laps around the streets of Anchorage in 52 minutes, one minute better than the time the previous record which was held by Werner Ohls, of An chorage. There were two entrants from the Jesse Lee Home at Seward, John Hughes and Andy Peterson. Hughes came in close behind Sekimo but Peterson was unable to maintain the fast pace set by the runers and was forced out from *the running. Kenneth Bayer, Anchorage youth, came in third. The prizes were $100 for first place, $50 for second, and $25 for third. Both Hughes and Bayer were in an exhausted condition when they finished the race, Hughes collapsing and Bayer fainting, Both, however, were revived within a few minutes. Ohls, the winner last year, didn’t enter the race this year. There were 15 entrants. Another of the Iron Steeds of the North, a caterpillar tractor was unloaded from the SS.
