Fulfilling his wish that he be i i buried by the side of his son Tom j my. on his homestead at Cheecock, ! Knudsen Bay, Iliamna Lake, the (body of John (Jack) Daniel Kin ney was laid to rest in the pres ence of many old friends who had known him in his lifetime, j Mr. Kinney left his home by air plane February 11 for Anchorage for medical treatment following ! a general breakdown of his erst while rugged health, but his vitali i ty was too low for him to rally from the strain of the trip, and he died at Anchorage at 11:30 o’clock j on the night of February 12. An autopsy showed that cancer and kidney trouble were the causes of his demise. The body was returned to Iliamna 1 Lake by plans, accompanied by C. M. Hutton. L. Hague left for the States on the SS Northwest ern enroute to Chehalis. I son Tommy Kinney, and thus his! last request was obeyed. All the residents of the district j who were aware of the date of the ! funeral, and that could get there were present. Among them were Hans Severson, Mr. and Mrs. Sam uel B. Foss, Lawrence Dahners, Trigve Olsen, Ed Yannonis, Her man Sandvick and Mike Hatton. John Daniel Kinney was born in Aristo county, Maine in 1865, and while still in his teens came t-o the Northwest, where he engaged in the logging industry, becoming a partner in a logging camp on the Snohomish river. He sold out and went to Dawsoon in 1897, worked a lay there and w'as quite successful. In 1900 he returned to the States, and writh his brother, developed a borax deposit in Neva da. This work soon palled on his adventurous nature, and Alaska called him back. This time he prospected on the Kuyokuk, and mined there until 1907, when he came to the Iliamna country, where he has remained, engaging I in prospecting, a little mining, fur trapping and trading. His last venture wras fur farming. Mr. Kinney leaves a host of friends to mourn his loss, among whom is his wife and daughter, Rose Dolly Kinney. He was a true Alaskan in every sense of the term. ' SEWARD CITY TOOK LAST POST E The Anchorage “Pirates” eased up a bit last night and permitted Seward City to win the last of a three-game ppst-season series; the score was 28-25. As far as Seward is concerned, the “Pirates” may wear the crown representing champions of Inter ior and Southwestern Alaska: they won it fair, square and above board with no evidence at any time of dirt at the crossroads. Ray Manthey did the sharp j shooting for Seward, aided and j abetted by Paul and Shellhorn, while the guardwork of both Don and Sandbeck continued to verge on the spectacular. Ray made 16 points, Paul 7, Shellhorn 4 and: the old captain. Edw. Manthey, i shoved across one, just for old times sake. Seward shot and missed 57 shots. For Anchorage, bean-pole Carl j -son dropped in 11, Liek. the Mexi j can jumping bean, 8. Bayer, the : hard working veteran, 4. and Tor | eador McKinnon, 2.
