He said that many people in the Second Ward had approached him and requested him to stay in Council and continue to represent them. He further stated that he would in due time present to Council concrète proof that many persons in the Second Ward want ed him to remain in Council. Alex Roosa offered a motion, sec onded by James E. Humes, that Mr. Bennett continue as a member of Council for the year 1960. The vote polled by the secretary dis closed that Messrs. John C. Jewell, James E. Humes. Alex Roosa and Alfred Nutter voted to sustain the motion; while Messrs. Percy R. Haughey, Clayton Kirby and Al bert Petefman voted no, with Mr. Bennett recorded as not voting. Haughey and Councilman Alex Roosa were nominated for the post of Vice May or. formerly held by Mr. Bennett. who was not renominated. Mr. H aughey won out by a vote of 5 3. Action on the selection of a Coun cil Secretary and City Secretary;« and Treasurer was deferred until the regular monthly meeting of Council on February 14. A. E., Humes who has served in the dual post for the past seven years, stat ed that he was not a candidate for the office. Questioned by Council man John C. Jewell, as to whether or not there was a possibility that he might change his mind. Mr. Humes replied that he did not choose to accépt the post again, He stated he would, however, carry on until his successor was chosen, Harvey B. Davidson, the incum bent in the position of City Alder man was re-elected by Council to that post over Messrs. David A. Clementa, Sr„ and S. Claude Bes wick, who Also Applied. David A. Clements. Sr., was nam ed Acting City Alderman. Action on the naming of an au diting committee was deferred until the next regular meeting. The pres ent members of the committee are Willard R. City Manager Bressler read a letter from ten members of the street Department requesting that their wages be raised from «« c P er hour to 75c per hour. Mayor Evans stated that P« ~ 8 ' sumed that he was to appoint.Coun cil committees for 1950, and be fur ther stated that he would bave have some time to study the P posed committees. Councilman re terman stated that he thought the committees as appointed by Mayor, should be presented to Council for their approval. A mo-, tion was offered, however, tha * 1 e Mayor be allowed to name the com mittees not subject to Council a proval. This motion was carried by a vote of 5 to 2. broken down as follows: Yeas—Messrs. Bennett, Jewell, Humes. Roosa and Nutter, Nays-Messrs. Haughey and Peter man. Not voting-Mr. Kirby.
