Special Methodist Church Service The Avenue and Calvary Metho dist Churches will sponsor a spe cial union service with the Rev. Dr. C. Stanley Thoburn of India, as the guest speaker on Thursday, February 17, at 8:00 o'clock, in the Calvary Methodist Church. This special service is a part of the missionary emphasis of the Penin sula Conference of the Methodist Church during the month of Feb ruary. Dr. Thoburn will be speak ing in churches throughout Mary land and Delaware during this month under the auspices of the Conference Board of Missions. Since India has come to occupy such a prominent place in religious and world affairs a person with such a background in India as Dr. Thoburn has, will be of special interest to the people of Milford. He was born in India to a cele brated pioneer Methodist mission ary family and has served there lor over a quarter of a century as teacher and pastor. He has been on the faculty of Leonard Theo logical College in Jabalpur, India, since 1936, meanwhile serving as pastor of the English-speaking Methodist Church in that city. He helps train Christian leaders for India from all parts ot that nation. He has been a district superinten dent and pastor of English churches in Bareilly and Naini Tal. He is graduate of Allegheny College and Boston University. The opportunity to hear, such speaker as Dr. Thoburn is a rare experience and the officials of both Avenue and Calvary Churches inviting the people of the commun ity to be present at this service. "Coverage will be extended only to those in dividuals who file an affidavit ex pressing their desire to come under the program;" he said. "The minis ter who elects coverage is consid ered self-employed, and if from the practice of his ministry, his net earnings exceed |400 a year, he will pay the social security self-employ ment tax at the time he files his income tax return," he. explained , minister has until April 15, 195/, to file an affidavit request ing coverage; however, if he wants credit for his 1955 earnings, he must file his affidavit by April 15 1956 Once an affidavit is filed, thé minister must continue under so cial security every year thereafter He cannot revoke his affidavit," Milbouer explained. "Besides tiling an affidavit, each minister who elects coverage must have a social security number. Aflidavit forms may be obtained from the Internal Revenue Service office in Wilmington. Application forms for social security numbers may be obtained from the social security office at 813 West Street in Wilmington, or from your local post office. Ministers and Christian Science practitioners who desire further in formation regarding the social se curity program are urged to write or visit their social security office. Card Party At St. John's Church On Wednesday evening, Febru ary 16th, beginning at 8:00 o'clock, St. John's will hold its first card party in its new social hall In the basement of the new Church at Seabury Avenue and School Place. All types of card games will be played that are in accordance with existing laws. Prizes will awarded to the high scorer at each table. Door prizes will also lie awarded during the party. Refresh ments will be served to all present. All the arrangements for the party have been handled by the officers of the two parish socie ties—the Holy Name Society and the Blessed Mother's Sodality. Messers Clement Rohrer, John Young, Joseph Dunn, and Frank Martuccl are the officers of the Holy Name Society and Mrs. John Young, Mrs. Robert Masten, Mrs. Dallas Pierce, and Mrs. Claude Field are the officers in the Sodali ty.
