LOCAL AND GENERAL MARKET -REPORTS DEALINGS CONFINED TO ROOM TRADERS Most of the Day's Trans actions for Profes sional Account. MONEY RATES AGAIN UP General Declines, Extending to x 3-4 Per Cent, Scored in Usually Active Railway Shares Reaction Toward Qote Fails to Bring About a Rise. NEW YORK, Sept. 15. The stock market today, with the exception ot scattered liquidation by the clients of commission houses due to high money rates, was mainly professional. In the forenoon and particularly just before midday declines extending to 1 per cent occurred in some ot the usual active railway shares, but the rise in call money to an extreme 20 per cent might be fairly said to have decreased the volume of dealings, rather than cre ated a confident selling pressure. Money was strong until late in the day, when, after most of the loans had been placed, quotations as low as 5 per cent -were reported. After the more ex treme weakness in the forenoon, a long spell of decided inactivity occurred, and in the last hour the market took on an Appearance of activity incidental to a sharp rally from the lowest prices, due to the covering of short contracts. foreign Exchange Weaker. As a result of the advance In call money the foreign exchange market de veloped further weakness, and this fact led to expectations of early gold impor tations. Tho monetary situation .naturally dominated interest, and caused other Influences to be virtually ignored. Lon don did comparatively little in this market on balance, attention at that center being mainly directed, as here, to the local monetary situation and pros pects. The developments of the day included large engagements of -wheat for export, and a considerably larger movement of cottcn to the outports. Tho total transactions were a little short of 640,000 shares, and were well distributed. Transactions in Atchison common. Union Facific common, and Missouri Pacific approximated 42,000 shares each. The only one of these fctocks to sustain a net loss of a full figure was the last mentioned. Other railway stocks that were prominent in cluded Southern Pacific, St. Paul, Wabash preferred, Canadian Pacific, Erie common, L. & N., Manhattan, Pennsylvania Railroad and Reading common, and in none of them did the net decline exceed "4 per cent. Slight Declines Scored. Norfolk and Western scored a slight net gain, and this was true of South ern Railway. Union Pacific, which was second in point of activity in the wholo railway list, also finished a slight frac tion above Saturday's final figure. On light transactions, Brooklyn Rapid Tran sit left off unchanged, while declines av eraging about a point occurred in Atch ison preferred, New York Central, Il linois Central, and Western Union Tele graph. Baltimore and Ohio, the weak feature, declined over 2 per cent early. The industrial list made a compara tively good resistance to the reactionary Tendency in railway issues. Sugar Re fining was more active than in some time past, and enjoyed an extreme gain of 2 per cent, about half ot which was retained at the close. Amalga mated Copper and United States Steel Issues bustaincd only insignificant net losses. Bonds Moderately Active. The railway bond market was only moderately active, and showed irregu larity with special weakness in Wa bash B debentures. The current market was inactive, and prices moved irregularly. The features were North ern Securities, which started in 2 points lower, and subsequently made a full re covery, and Rock Island issues, which lost an 01 tnc early improvement, ex tending io a point. Tho market closed steady at the de clines noted. Uew York Stock Exchange, Sept 15. CHICAGO, Sept. 15 In view of the large receipts in Northwest and bearish showing of the day's statistics wheat made a very gratifying gain. The buy ing was largely from tho Northwest, from whence the heaviest selling came last week. Duluth was offering wheat at low prices at Buffalo and reported large receipts. Minneapolis, however, was strong on caBh wheat and bought freely here. Duluth reported bales of 500,000 buuhcls cash wheat, of which one-half was for export. The Seaboard sales were fifty loads. Actual clearances 548,000 bushels. Primarily market re ceipts or the day were 1.778.000 bushels as compared with 2,513,000 bushels for two days last year. Private elevator stocks here are expected to show a very large increase for the week, car lots were lc lower. Receipts were 260 cars, of which twelve were standard.
