AMUSEMENTS
Human Hearts Tonight
The theatrical manager of a decade
ago led us to believe that when a
play had been established in iniblic
favor that any kind of a cast could
be employed to exploit it before tae
public and for that reason and no
ether can a great many of them as
cribe their ultimate failure Not so
with AV E Nankevlllc manager of
Human Hearts which comes to us
tonight
Mr Xankcville has always maintain
ed that the best is none too good for
the public and if by any possible
chance lie can better his companies
he never fails to tlo so It is to this
policy he attributes the wonderful
success of Human Hearts with the
theatre going public

Will Unmask Thursday
A great deal of interest has been
fcroused here by the mysterious lady
The Girl in the Purple Mask who
IB appearing daily and nightly all
this week at the Orpheum theatre
Vho is she and why snc should Wisb
Io conceal her features from the pub
She Will Unmask Thursday at the Or
pheum
lie are questions no one could answer
She has traveled all over the country
from the north to the south and has
never yet it is said removed the
mask but as the cause fQr its use is
now removed she will unmask at tho
first performance Thursday <
How she became known by no oHi
cr name than The Girl in the Purple
Mask is told as follows All those
who have attended the performances
this week are aware that she is the
possessor of a tine soprano voice In
the city of her birth she sang in the
choir In this same city Scott Leslie
who works with her in their vaude
ville acts and is the director of the
tour was the manager of a theatre
He heard her sing and offered her an
ngngement upon the stage this offer
she accepted but her father did not
wish her to leave home and flatly re
fused to give his consent
She and her friends did everything
in their power to get him to give ils
consent which he finally tUfl in this
way saying She can go butif she
ever shows her face upon the stage 1
stall disinherit her This seemed
like a complete defeat until Mr Leslie
crififnateri the mask idea as a plant

A tour was arranged and her suc

start One night her father came to
the city where she was appearing and
after seeing her came back and asked
her to forgive him for his rash threat
and nave his full consent for her ap

this time she had become so identified i
with tae title The Girl in the Pur I

her to discontinue its use until the

she will remove the mask before the
