perhaps of greater importance to the
state than any other matters before
the legislature
Senator Buell Cook has introduced
a joint resolution calling attention to
the needed revision of the constitu I
tion Its adoption would mean the
submitting to the popular vote of the
question of tailing a convention In
this way it is after all up to the peo
ple There is a sentiment in the leg
islature for the calling of the body
but many of the members feel a lit

position at all In the meantime the
state constitution is Practically an un
intelligible proposition and there are I
amendments enough before the legis

This legislature wil not pass a bill
making an appropriation In final set

COI Wailes has all kinds of evidence
to provQ that he is justly entitled
to the money for his work in settling
the Indian war claims with the gov

But it is quite probablo that an en

tirely satisfactory to Col Wailes and
the cther3 concerned
The legislature couhl hardly refuse
in reason to pass such an act for It
IF only in common justice and en

cases Senator Harris of Key West
introduced a bill to this effect and the
senate judiciary committee reported
the measure favorably today If this
act is passed it will enable a claim
nearly sis old as the state to be fin

Representative Light who is one of
the former members from down in old
Marion county and isnt a bit ashamel
of the fact has sudlenly and really
unexpectedly to himself sprung into
the limelight He introduced a bill
providing for a franchise tax of ono
per cent of the gross earnings ot
practically all public utility corpora

sound so big but the manner In which
the corporations representatives hal
been jumping around the legislative
halls and appearing before commit
tees against the measure Indicates that
it is considered a decidedly stringent
bill
