The sudden breaking of her silence
was caused by a quarrel with another
woman who was also mentioned by
Warriner in his blackmail charges
I never received a cent from War
riner I never informed the railroad
of his shortage It was another wo
man that did it all I thought she
was my friend she said Then she
added I know the whole story and i
I I will tell it in court It will make a
sensation

This gigantic cut will be nine miles
long with a width of 300 feet at the
bottom which will be 40 feet above
sea level the normal level of the
water being fixed at 85 feet above the

made of the first steam shovel work
ing in dry excavation on the bottom
of the canal Previously some dredg
ing has been done on the bottom at

Yesterday was the second day of the
TriCounty Fair the attendance was
far ahead of the opening day and the
fair as a whole and the exhibits Indi
vidually were pronounced far superior
to anything ever seen in this section
of the state The crowns of yester
day showed a coloring from the coun
try that bespeaks the presence of
outoftown visitors in large numbers
Every building was crowded during
the afternoon with visitors airfr at
times it was almost impossible to
pass from one building to another
Ladies in large numbers added their
presence to the throngs and the num
ber to visit the womans department
crowded that department to Its utmost
There were many complimentary re
marks on the excellence of the ex
hibits the large number and the very
tasty manner in which all were ar
ranged Everyone left well pleased
with the fair and many were agreeably
surprised at the extensiveness of tho
show and especially at the farm and
garden products
OVER 3000 ATTENDED
Over three thousand persons passed
through the gates according to the
officials last night and it is expected
that today the crowds will be still
larger The fine free attractions the
excellence of music furnished by the
marine band the many amusing con
cessions added to the pleasure of the
visitors and all were well patronized
Crowds collected about the various
amusement tents and at times por
tions of the grounds were congested
but all remained in the best of humor
and good order was maintained
throughout the afternoon and evening
Yesterday was set for the awarding
of premiums In the live stock depart
ment as well as in the womans de
partment and the judges and clerks
were kept busy throughout the day
The list of winners will be completed I
by tomorrow and the successful ones
will be announced
CHILDRENS DAY
Tomorrow has been set aside as
Childrens Day at the fair and the
management will have an excellent
program prepared for the occasion i
The school children will have an ex
cellent opportunity of attending hay
ing a holiday and it Is expected they
will crowd the fair grounds Not
only will the program be one that will
amuse the young but the older ones
as well and every exhibit will remain
Just as it is until the close of the fair
Todays program is one replete with
good features prominent among them
being Madam Marantette and her
Arabian horses and Senor Nosidick
on the aerial wire
A feature of tonight on the bay will
be a grand illuminated parade of all
motor boats

The autopsy disclosed that Simp
sons death was due to a rupture of
the aeorta To just what measure
of responsibility if any Everton will
finally be held by the law is a ques
tion puzzling the legal experts The
prosecutor is credited with the Inten
tion of holding Everton on a technical
charge of manslaughter until his case
can be passed upon by the grand jury
next month

Notwithstanding the high winds and
the heavy seas that were running
throughout the day the AllGnlf re
gatta off Magnolia Bluff yesterday af
ternoon was an unqualified success
and was one of the features of the day
at the fair Fast time was madt >
though the boats at times were almost
covered with water the seas breaking
over them almost constantly The
Ora owned by W A Dunham won
the principal event that of the class
A cup which Js a handsome trophy
Owing to rough weather In the gulf
the Blue Wing which had reached
Mobile on the way here was unable
to make tho remainder of the passage
The bay off Magnolia Bluff present
ed a pretty scene during tho day the
racing boats trimmed clean of cabins
In many instances and in best racing
form being tossed about at their
moorings while others who had been
called for a race jockeyed about ready
for position for the start An instance
of real sportsmanship was witnessed
in the last race when Capt Palma of
the Detroit who could have started a
mile in the lead of the Ora made a
circle and waked for the arrival of the
Ora before going on the course
MANY VESSELS OUT
Many vessels were at anchor off the
bluff where a good view could be ob
tained of the races Among them
were the Pilot on which were mem
bers of the yacht club and visiting
yachtsmen an army steamer naval
tug and several smaller tugs while
naphtha launches had good positions
near the starting boat All were
decorated with flags and 4mntinc
while up In the harbor foroign vessels
had flags flying throughout the day
Capt J J Tru adale of St An
drews whose boat the Autogo was
prevented from making the race b
reason of an accident stated last
night that he believes the regatta
will result In more interest being
manifested in motor boating and that
next year and the following season the
regattas will become big events along
tho gulf coast He will build a speed
boat before the next regatta which
will make it interesting for all comers
