The Southern Commercial Congress -wEl be, possibly, the greatest meeting . vr hxld in the south. Its scope is " Yg.it, covering almost every depart -'.tnent of industry known in the south. Its object being to show up to the rest the world the advantages of the "south, and, at the same time, intro duc sew ideas and methods into this section of the country. Probably the greatest number of the nation's iead , ing men ever to have assembled at any ene meeting in the south will be on -fcand at this congress, and many of , them will deliver addresses and lec tures on subjects of vital importance -ia the development cf the resources of cthe south. The men who will address this con gress are, without exception, experts In their lines and are fully familiar . with the subjects they are to handle. "- .end this meeting should prove of vast fceneflt, not only ,to those who are so "fortunate as to attend it, but to the en tire south. - Waterman to Read Paper. Among the interesting features con- " teected with the Southern Commercial -Congress will be the section meetingr which win be held on the afternoon of the third day, when several of the - leading men at the congress will hold meetings for the purpose of discussing " the particular subjects in which they -ere interested and in which they are experts. One of these meetings will be hel l for the purpose of discussing "Commer- xial Organizations,' and will be opened I with a paper by G. A. Waterman, sec retary of the Pensacola Commercial ' i Association. His paper will be fol lowed by others, and a general discus slon and exchanging of Ideas will take place. This was the second of the weekly excur sions for this year which are always run from this city to DeFunlak during the Chautauqua at that place, the first one having been run last week, but on account of Mardi Gras in this city very few people went on the. former excur sion. However, quite a number of Fensacolians made the trip yesterday end will spend today at the Florida Chautauqua. The railroad has given the ' usual Jow rate for each Saturday during the Chautauqua, this year, and It is prob able that quite a number cf Pensacola people will make weekly trips to De- . U 1 i Twinman Collins, a negro who .claims to have come from Birming ham, Ala and who was arrested Fri-. day night on the dangerous and sus picious charge, was given a hearing before the recorder yesterday morning and turned over to the county on the charge of larceny. Friday afternoon a negro woman re ported to the police that a negro had Btolen J30 from her and furnlahed a description of the man. The police de partment immediately got busy on the case with the result that early In the night Friday Officers - Reed, Schmitr, Clay and Graham had the negro under arrest and the money located. The negro stated that he had come from Birmingham, which he claims as bis home, with the woman who had him arrested, to spend Mardi Gras In this city, and that she had given him the money, but had gotten jealous be cause she saw another woman with his hat on, and had therefore gone end had him arrested.
