The Coburn Players in presenting Shakespeare's "As You Like It" at the armory hall last night delighted the large audience present. The cast was a well balanced one and ably inter preted the comedy. This play was to have been given out of doors, where natural woodland scenery would have given a fit setting. However, Che inclement weather neces sitated the use of the hall. This was unfortunate, as the acoustics of the place are miserable. This fact greatly detracted from the full appreciation by those present, and especially was this true of the singing. Mir. Coburn, in the role of Orlando, was the bright particular star. He had truly the spirit of the Shake spearean gentleman and lover. His splendid physique and voice admirably fit him for this part. In the difficult role of the fool, Mr. Royden Erlynne, as Touchstone, achieved success. The. fool of the Elizabethan drama Is so far removed from the clown of the later day shows, that this older comedian is not always appreciated. The women of the play were uni formly good. Mrs. Coburn, as Rosa lind, and Miss Barleon. as Celia. were "eternally feminine." The woman In love and her girl confidant were per-? fecUy delineated In Rosalind and her cousin. Likewise, Miss Turner and Miss Harrington, as Phoebe and Au- drew, showed in true life fashion the woman touched by the gentle passion. The Coburn Players will surely be welcomed by all lovers of Shakespeare when they return next year. Last Nighfs Play. "The Flirting Princess." with Harry Bulger, Miss Eulalie Jansen. Miss Maude Emery, Charles Morgan and one of the best choruses of pretty and shapely girls, was the offering at the opera house last night. The play is brim full of funny talk and the chorus Is worked as is seldom the case in musical comedies. The Apache dance by Charles Morgan and Maude Emery and the Vampire dance by Miss Jansen proved to be attractive features. .-. - Harry Bulger and Miss Jansen were favorites from the beginning and they ere applauded frequently. Harry Bulger sings a few comical songs and Ms wit is new and spicy. He for tunately knows when to leave off and refuses to be known as an encore man deeplte the loud applause that followed his songs. As a dancer Miss Jansen is a rare artist and her acting is clever, but her singing Is disappointing. The same may be said of Miss Emery. Charles Morgan came in for his share of popular favor and his singing was best of the entire company.
