Frank Dare, foreman of the Jury which re turned a verdict of guilty against the alleged dynamite conspirators, who has received two letters threatening his life, left today for Florida to spend the winter. Ills health has been impaired by worry over the letters and by long confinement during the trial. A seclal session of the board of county commissioners was held yes terday morning for the purpose of re viving a report of the proposed new road in the northwestern section of the county, which will form a connecting link with several Important highways now existing. The report, which was adopted by the board, recommended that the road begin at the intersection of the county road, which stops at Herron's bridge and runs thence to a point known as Cummin's, point on. Perdido bay. This road will connect with the road to Lillian. Ala. The board win hold another meeting this afternoon, when all unfinished business will be cleared up prior to the new members taking ofljee. EDITOR OF ARKANSAS GAZETTE IS APPOINTED U. S. SENATOR Little Rock. Arlc, Jan. 6. Governor George W. Donaghey today appointed Editor J. N. Heiskell. of the Arkansas Gazette of this city United States sen ator, to succeed the late Jeff Davis. The appointment is for the short term ending March 4. John Neltherland Heiskell is 40 years of age and is a native Tennesseean. For a number of years he was engaged in newspaper work In Knoxvllle and Memphis and served in an editorial ca pacity In the Chicago and Louisville offices of the Associated . Press . before coming to Little Rock as editor of the Gazette,- of which he is part owner. Mr. Heiskell has never held a politi cal office and today said with the elec. tloh of a senator at the coming session of the Arkansas legislature he will re turn to Little Rock and resume his editorial work. RECIPROCAL DEMURRAGE LAW IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL Washington, Jan. 6. The Minnesota reciprocal demurrage law of 1907 was today annulled as unconstitutional by the supreme court of the United States. The court held that the fed eral government had legislated on the subject and so taken away all power, if any existed, from the states to legislate on It as far as interstate commerce was concerned. Forty-nine defend ants were found guilty, sixteen dis charged, cne turned over to the Bain Iridge, Ga authorities and eleven cases were continued. The fines as sessed amounted to $227. Henry Hays, a negro, charged with teing a dangerous and suspicious character, was fined $20 and costs. He was arrested on complaint of George Vucovieh, who testified that the negro stole a beef roast, a beefsteak, etc., from his wagon Saturday night after he had allowed the negro to ride from Chase street on Tarragona to the de pot.
