C A. basketball league will Inaugurate a new and unique feature In connection with the regular league games tomor row night, when they will hold the first of several Informal receptions to be given immediately after the games to all who attend the games. No special Invitations will be sent out but all who attend the games are urged to remain and lend their presence to the success of the occasion. . . A special musical program will be rendered by an orchestra composed of the Messrs. Diaz brothers, Johnson, Dickinson, Motta, and OrtelL while Messrs. Frenkel and Ortell will en deavor to enliven the occasion with several Vocal selections. A word of welcome and a talk on basketball will be In order and light refreshments will be served. The Idea Is most unique and from the many comments heard since Its announcement it seems certain to meet with success. The committee on ar rangements Is composed of Roscoe Wal lace, chairman; H. E. Hoppen, O. G. Philips and Dent Smith. The Basketball Games. The games scheduled for tomorrow night are the Bexalls vs. Sharks and Pirates vs. Whitmans. The games last week were very close and Interesting and those tomorrow should be even more so. The race for the pennant is very close and Interest la at fever heat. To the satisfaction of their opponents the Rexalls lost their first game this season last week, the Whitmans de feating them by one point This leaves the Pirates and Rexalls tied for first place, while the Whitmans and Sharks rank In the order named. The Sharks surprised every one by walloping the champion Pirates last week, their improvement being very marked. ; ,- . This week the games promise to be even more close and sensational. Twenty-five defendants were found guilty, eleven discharged, four turned over to the. county, one to the probation officer, one held for the Washington county authorities and four cases were continued. The fines assessed amounted to $92. Henry Hlggenbottom and Claud Bed- sole, both negroes, charged with being vagrants, were given ten days each. Iff the desires of a majority of those who attended the meeting called by the city council committee having in charge the matter of framing a charter for the government of Pensacola by commis sion government are granted, the first commission, will be composed of three members, who shall not actively en gage In any other business, serve for one, two and three years and receive a salary of $3,000 each per year this being the decision arrived at last night at the meeting held in the council chamber for the purpose of discussing the matter. At the opening of the meeting Alder man Semmes, chairman of the com mittee, said that In order to put the matter Intelligently before the audience the clerk would read the proposed charter as arranged by the committee and which appeared In part in The Journal a' few days ago. It was first read through and later by sections. The motion .to make the number of commissioners three was made by J. O. Walker and was carried by a standing vote. About fourteen, who favored placing the number at more than three, voted against the motion. The motion to pay each commis sioner $3,000 a year was made by M. E. Morey. The motion that the commissioners be prohibited from engaging In other business was made by A-.V. Clubbs, who said that they should be com pelled to devote their entire time to the duties of their offices. Aldermen Semmes and Concannon both approved of the suggestion made by Mr. Clubbs and said that the com missioners should not be allowed to engage actively In any other business or be allowed to receive a salary for any other work which they might per form. Alderman Moyer, the other member o the committee,, did not approve of the Idea of -compelling-a commissioner to devote all of his time to the duties of the office, but thought that they should be allowed to engage In busi ness which they could attend to be tween the hours of 5 to 9 a. m. and from 4 p. m. to as late as they may see fit. . The meeting, which was called to or der at 7:30 o'clock, adjourned at 10, a motion to adjourn at this hour being carried shortly after the session began. .About 125 were present. ..The next meeting of-the committee; composed of Aldermen Semmes,- Moyer and Concannon, will be held next Fri day night. at 7:30 o'clock In the council chamber.
