LIVE SPORTING GOSSIP OF INTEREST EVERYWHERE SWAMP ANGELS WIN LAST CAME FROM THE SWAPPERS VISITORS - AND HOME CLUB STAGED AN ELEVEN' INNING CONTEST WITH WHICH TO RING DOWN THE CURTAIN ON THE SERIES. LARKSDALE 2, Snappers 1.' The Sfranip Angels and the Snappers staged an eleven inning contest with which to ring down the curtain on the series and the vis itors were at the long end of the score when the final out was made yes terday afternoon at Maxcnt park. It was a maarniflcent game from all angles and was marred only by the work of Umpire Hall, who, in the language of Alderman Semraes, ren dered decisions that were decidedly I out. puma- on numerous occasions. The Kame should have been a 1 to 0 vic tory for the Snappers, instead of a 2 to 1 defeat, for King mipsed the plate only about three feet when Clarks dale scored their first run. Towfisend, who pitched so credit ably in the opener, was selected as the artist to again slant them over for the Snappers, while Kraft, the star of the Swamp Angels, was pitted against the port sider. Townsend pitched excellent ball. In fact he had about everything a pitcher desired, considering the fact that his umps made him split the plate, while Kraft did equally well and was pulled out of several holes when the umpire lent a helping band. The Swamp Angels broke into the run column first. King in the sixth inning, got the first hit for the visitors, when he punched a single to left. Fernsen flied out to third and Kraft. th swatter and pitcher, caught one on . th end of his bat and dented th right field wall with It. IIo pulled up at second and King raced towards home, took a slide and missed the home plate about three feet, being tagged out by Hauser, but his umps, standing placidly back of the pitcher during the proceedings, was silent for a few moments, then leisurely walked over to home plate examined the char acter of the soil, and called the run rr safe. Pens&eola failed to count until the eight. Gudger first up In the second, became desperate when his umps In sisted on calling strikes over his head, so te leaped up and hit one, driving it to rlsbt for a brace of bags. Town to third, hit a little pop up, that Kraft took in, and Miller whiffed the ozone. Hamilton, however, was equal to the occasion, and he sent a hot one be tween first and second that scored Gudger. Hamilton was caugTit a mo ment later, when Kraft made a pal pable balk, but his umps decreed to look elsewhere. In the first half of the ninth the visitors threatened, and Mr. Townsend. who -had been going great, wajs moved to the bench, and Burmeister cent to the firing line. The bases were loaded, with only one out. when Bur. took up the burden. King up hit a fast one, and set it equally fast back towards Berger. The big first base man stuck up his mit, gathered it In and completed an unassisted double play, while the fans breathed "a sigh of relief. Pensacola also threatened in this inning. Jewell beat out an infield rap and took second on Berger's sacrifice, but was left there when "Long flied Selma Loses Another to Jackson; Columbus Easily Beats Meridian BT ASSOCIATED FRESS. Selma, April 30. Jackson wound up the series here this afternoon by ad ministering a shut-out to the home club. In a pitcher's battle between Day and Love the former had the bet ter and let Selma down without a hit, while Love yielded two bingles and a number of passes. The game was called at the end of the sixth inning to permit Jackson to catch a train for Columbus. Score: R. H. E. A moment late Mr. Kraft pulled an other balk and caugnt Harris. His umps looked in time to see Harris tagged, but not the balk made by Kraft. The vistors servel up the lagniappe in the fn-jst half of the eleventh. Braun, who is also some swatter, pjnehed the pill -to right for two bags. Moore popped out to Hauser, and Moneymaker went out, pitcher to first. Henry rolled a cripple to Harris, who fielded it perfectly, but resembled a suffragette in his heave to first. The ball dropped short, struck Berger's glove and bounded away, while Braun raced across with the winning run, for Mr. Kraft clamped on the lid in Pen. sacola's half, and the game -was over.
