Recorder Welsh held that Conductor

to the forward part of the car.

The Southern Logging Association,
with membership scattered through
half of the southern states, will hold a.
convention of one day in Pensacola,
convening in the auditorium of the
San Carlos hotel on Thursday morn
ing. May 8, and it is expected that
there will be a good attendance as a
number of matters important to the
saw mills will be discussed. Among
the subjects are:
Location of spurs.
Taking up, laying steel and repairs
to track.
Cutting right of way and banking
grounds.
Grading and building bridges.
Ivoggmr in hilly and level country
compared, also best equipment for
each territory
Feed, which is a very expensive item
when stock are used for skidding.
Cutting logs.
Haulirg or skidding to track.
Cost of loading logs on cars.
Cost of main line to pond.
Fuel for Icomotives.
Any other subject those present

P. S. Railey, an electric rstnet car
conductor, charged with violating the
"Jim Crow" law, was fined $1! by Re
corder Welsh yesterday morning. Ha
pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The charge was made against Railey
last Wednesday night, when he is said
to have allowed negro passengers to
ride on the front platform of the car.

Xew Tork, May 2. With parade,
pageant and appeal from the public
platform, the women of New Tork city
who believe in woman suffrage will
give a demonstration tonight and to
morrow in favor of their cause. Theo
dore Roosevelt will deliver an ad
dress tonight at the pageant, depict
ing woman's "dream of freedom" to
be given at the Metropolitan Opera
House.
Tomorrow afternoon what is ex
pected to be the greatest woman suff
rage parade ever held thirty thou
sand strong will move up Fifth ave
nue. When It is over, men and wom
en orators in automobiles will appeal
to the people In the plaza at Fifth
avenue and Fifty-ninth street and a
great mass meeting will be held in
Carnegie Hall.
Pelegations of women from neigh
boring states, some coming by special
train, with their own bands, began
pouring into , the city today to take
part in the demonstration.

In the . recorder's court yesterday
morning, the cases against R. E Low
ry, Miss Debby Lowry and Roy Wil
liams, who were arrested Thursday
afternoon on the charge of engaging
in a fight near the Garden street en
trance of the San Carlos hotel, were
continued on account of Williams not
being able to appear in court.
During the fight Williams was cut in
the leg while he was down on the
sidewalk, but the wound Is not dan
gerous. It is claimed that he was cut
by Lowry, against whom the additional
charge of assaulting with a knife has
been placed. The fight is said to have
been caused by Williams U6ing obscene
language while talking to Miss Lowry.
