SELLING BEERS POLICE ARREST TWO NEGROES WHO ARE SAID TO HAVE BEEN RETAILING COLD DRINKS AT THEIR PRIVATE HOME. Two negroes who gave their names as Joe Tolliver and Lula Felder, -were locked up in the city jail yesteraday on a charge of selling: liquor on Sun day and selling the same without a license. They were held in default of heavy bail, which the chief had placed on them, and being unable to furnish said security, were locked up for the day. The arrest of this couple followed the appearance of a drunken negro woman on the street, who was picked up and who was sent to the city jail. Asked wrhere she obtained the "glass that cheers," she indicated the house where Lula Felder lived. The officers went there and Chief Sanders found quite a supply of cold beer in the ice box. Upon this discovery, and the fact that other matters had aroused the suspicions of the police officer on the beat, the two parties in the house were arrested. They will be tried this morning on the serious charges above named. SURE BATHING WAS ENJOYED AT THE ISLAND NUMBER OF LADIES AND GEN TLEMEN WHO WENT OVER ON THE STEAMER CESSNA COULD NOT RESIST TAKING A DIP. Surf bathing was enjoyed in the rolling billows of the Mexic gulf at Santa Rosa Island yesterday, quite a number of ladies and gentlemen who went from the city to the island on board the big excursion steamer Cess na not being able to resist the chance of taking a dip on the beach, and in the most beautiful surf "rollers" in the entire country. The Cessna left the city with over four hundred ex cursionists yesterday, going direct to the island, where the people left the steamer and remained some time on the island. Those who enjoyed the surf bathing said that it was just like the" mid-summer bathing they are used to. Quite a number of tour ists were on the boat from the inland part of the United States, and they marvelled at the climatic conditions which permitted of comfortable open air bathing while at their home cities, in many cases, the snow was just melting on the ground. The boat returned to the city short ly before dark and all reported one of the best of afternoon enjoyment. BARON COBOLY QUITS ATLANTA N A BIG HUFF HOTEL GUESTS OBJECT TO THE MUSIC AT ALL HOURS AND THE BARON, WELL KNOWN IN PEN SACOLA, BECOMES INDIGNANT AND DEPARTS. Baron Andor von Coboly. known quite well in Pensacola. where he so journed for several weeks, has qtiit Atlanta in a huff and has departed for parts unknown, according to the fol lowing frem the Atlanta Georgia: The Baron Andor Von Coboly, of Budapest, Hungary, is gone, and be hind his departure there is a Bad Eton, mates, for those who have any sparks of genius concealed about their persons, and who have an idea that Atlanta ranks high in the scale of musical knowledge and apprecia tion, for alas! 'tis not thu3. It's the tale of a genius who ge niused around out at the Georgian Terrace for some time, his geniusing in music, confused eminent compos ing, and who up and went away from there Wednesday because certain peevish persons, persons of low com mercial instincts and primeval tastes in music, confused eminent compos ing with the common or garden va riety of noise, and plaintively ob jected to sonatas in E flat, or in A hotel room, or anywhere, served a la carte in the still watches of the night. Neighbor Called Him "Guy." Speaking of the Baron Andor Von Coboly M. D.. B. M., A. M., Ph. D., and so on, globe-trotting millionaire nobleman, lieutenant of Hungarian Hussars, and eminent composer, he is gone from among us now, with sor row in his heart and his soul filled with unflattering opinions of Atlan ta's musical taste; gone partly be cause he wanted to go and partly because the folks at the Terrace deli cately hinted that sleeping should take precedence over eminent com posing. One guest in a room near the Baron's vehemently suggested suppression of that "guy's" night composing. . The Baron left quite a number of shattered hearts and dreams, if re ports can be believed: for iie was very popular in social circles and was a great deal of a lion, subject to the wiles and witchery of a whole lot of Atlanta's beautiful, young society girls. Here Five Weeks. Five weeks ago the Baron Von Co boly burst upon the horizon of the Terrace. He registered, installed a piano in his room and began his emi nent composing, and he is really a famous composer. He worked stead ily for a week without exciting any comment, for he worked during the daytime. Soon his social engagements took up all the daylight hours, and he be gan doing some eminent composing at night. Then there began to be heard mutterings of discontent: mur murs of revolt arose, and delicate hints were conveyed to Manager Keen that it would be wise to segre gate the Baron, to pass laws making j the night a closed season on eminent composing. Finally a delegation of outraged guests descended en masse upon Manager Keen and stated in plain terms that they hud been robbed of sleep long enough; they needed sleep, they wanted sleep, and sleep they must have. The suggestion was made that the management of the Terrace regulate the eminent composing. Baron is Indignant. So Mr. Keen sent word up to the Baron that he must cease his emi nent composing, or do it only in the daytime. Whereupon the Baron came down in high dudgeon, and forthwith slapped Atlanta sharply upon the wrist, taking our beloved city to task for her lack of musical knowledge and her horrid manners. The Baron left Atlanta Wednesday at 6 o'clock. He said he was going from here to Augusta, and will then make an automobile trip to Nev York City. GILL RETURNED TO SERVE OUT A LONG LIFE TERM LEFT j HERE YES- WHITE MAN TERDAY IN CHARGE OF AGENT BRIDGES OF STATE CONVICT LESSEES. GOING TO OCALA. Arthur Gill, who has been hId, in the Escambia county Jail awaiting the pleasure of the conlict lessees, was handcuffed yesterday morning, and, in custody of T. E. Bridges, agent for the lessees, left on the early train for Ocala, where he will be placed in the stockade to serve out the balance of a long term embracing the balance of his natural life. He was brought to Pensacola from New Orleans after telling a policeman in that city that he was wanted in Florida for an unserved life sentence. Leaving yesterday, he appeared as much at ease, and as composed as if he were going on a pleasure trip. Mr. Bridges, however, was careful to see that Gill had no chance of trying to escape, or doing himself harm. Ho was known as a desperate criminal, although in the Escambia county jail he was not troublesome in the least and appeared to be satisfied. Never since his confinement in the local county jail did he deviate from his first story of having made his- es cape from a life term for murder, and the only part of his story that was contradicted in the least was his claim of having killed four negroes in Far go, Ga., a deed that is not on record. At least there are no warrants, so far as Sheriff Ellis could ascertain, for his arrest in the state of Georgia. FINE DISPLAY IN SHOW WINDOWS Feoplc were reminded of the ap proach of spring and summer yester day in passing the John White Store, where the large show windows were tastefully decorated, displaying spring and summer goods to advantage. The backgrounds represent garden gateways of marble with spring fol iage as decorations ' and attracted much attention during the day and early part of ahe evening. Subscribe for The Journal.
