The property of C. C. Merigel Bros.
Co., In Mexico, has been seized by the
Federals uid the Louisville linn,
which does a big importing business
through Pensacola will lose heavily.
The JCew York Herald of recent date
Contained the following from Belize
regarding :he seizure:
"The extensive mahogany works of
the C. C. Mengel Brothers' Company
on the Rio Hondo has been raided and
seized by Mexican federal soldiers, of
ficials and laborers were driven away.
"Aside from the abandonment of the
entire works at Camp Mengel. on the
Mexican aide of the Honduras-Mexico
border, the company will lose 2,000 ma
hogany logs, which are now in Rio
Hondo ready to be floated down the
river to Belize and more than 7,500,000
feet of mahogany which has been cut
and lie in the forests. The abandon
ment of Camp Mengel means the loss
of thousands of dollars weekly which
'wu expended by the C. C. Mengel
Brothers' Company in payrolls and
'later spent by workmen here.
"No reason was given by Captain

officer, who seized the property, why
Camp Mengel was taken by the Mexi

of soldiers on the morning of April 26
and requested every one to leave-. The

the three camps were sent to Payo
Obispo on Sunday and Monday and at
the present time only the Mexican

refugees were brought to Belize.
"The C C. Mengel Brothers' Com
pany, operating the concessions to cut
mahogany along the Rio Hondo and
operating the large plant at Camp
Mengel, Is a Louisville (Ky.) corpora
tion, and one of the largest in 'Mexico
and Central America.
"Reports received here are to the
effect that other American corpora
tions operating further in the interior
have not been molested."

fair of the season was given during
the past week when on Friday evening
Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Caiter entertained
at a "come and go" reception in honor
of their charming house guest, Miss
Maud Crawford, of Dothan, Ala.
The guests were met at the door by
Mrs. C. W. Mizell, who ushered them
into the parlor, where they were en
tertained to the receiving line com
posed of Mr. A. M. Carter.

Mips Crawford, who was lovely In
peach color-crepe meteor with real
lace trimmings; Miss Minnie King,

line. Mrs. Clifford Foster invited the
guests to the dining room, where a
delightful buffet luncheon was served
by Mrs. J. C. McLeod and Mrs. A. T.
Dean. They were then .shown into
th library and thence to the punch
bowl, by Miss Nannie. Campion, there
Miss Anna Fitzgerald and Miss Gypsic
Smith served delicious nectarine.
The guests were next invited by
Miss Lona Nichols to the guest regis
tration table, where Miss Lottie Lee
Searcy presided. After registering,
they were shown to the door by Mit-s
Lena Robertson of Seminery, Mi5S.
The reception ial, dlningroom, par
lor and library were thrown together
and made beautiful with decorations
of ferns. Candles were- lighted here
and there. The house was one fone
of merriment, whose walls resounded
all evening with beautiful piano music
furnished by Miss Mabel Daniels.
About sixty guests called during the
evening.
A grand reception was pulled off at
Opp on Wednesday night last, given
by the Henderson supporti.-ra to the
Comer supporter. Severr.l courses
were served, consisting of everything
generally served in a. meeting of iliis
kind. The Comer men all partook
freely of the good thing..--, and would
occasionally make the remark that the
reception was given by Henderson j
supporters, however th-f Comer sup-
porters were footing the expense bi!i.-.
The a-ffair all passed off quietly and
all the guests Joined h.-nds and each
as a whole announced for Henderson In
the November election.
