ESCAMBIA COUNTY will be represented in the Legislature by one Senator and two Representa tives. TUESDAY you will elect your Senator and Representatives. WHAT KIND OF MEN do you want to represent YOU? There are six candidates for Representative. I have nothing to say concerning any of them except myself. I am a young man and have a future before me. Therefore if I am elected I cannot afford to "fall down on the job." It will mean too much to my future success. I have been practicing law in Pensacola since I was admitted to the bar, and, so far, I have made a success of it. If I have the ability to represent my clients in a law suit, I think I have the ability to suc cessfully represent my county in the Legislature. DON'T YOU THINK SO? If you decide that I am fully capable of taking care of YOUR INTERESTS in the next session of the Legislature, THEN I WANT YOU TO VOTE FOR ME. ROBERT H. ANDERSON. ATTORNEY GENERAL IS KEPT BUSY ANSWERING QUESTIONS ABOUT NEW PRIMARY LAW. SPECIAL TO THE JOURNAL. Tallahassee, May 0. Attorney Gen eral West is beins complimented on the i"anner in which he has t keri care of the inquiries coming to his office in volving the interpretation of the pri mary law and the corrupt practices act. Scores of inquiries have come to irn troni committeemen, county offi . ers and others interested and. w hile the replies have been Tared hastily. .T-.t The views expressed are not offi cial, they have been accer-ted eenr-rally :s cirt-ct. and sustained by the cottrts in every case where the question has i been submitted to the courts. j Steamer Natomah, to Is-1 pj land, today, 3 p. m. j "DEPRES By Gilfillan Scott. We don't like blessings in disgruise. Jam with powder is a t. aud. So is molasses with sulphur. Coffee wit castor oil is a cheat and a humbut and to the divil with the whole con traption of sugar coate l pills ant other tricks and contrivances that come, like wolves in sheep's clothing warranted to do you good. Haren't you noticed that all th nasty things are so very good for you. and all the nice things are ever s' tad for you! If you fall and break al most any part of yourself except your one and only r.vck (why didn't we &e: two necks and two palates, to say nothing of two stomachs: ), you are told to be thankful it wasn't any wore; and. if a bank busts and yon lose your pile all but five cents, some pious friend will tell you to count your blessings (meaning the flv cents) and turn the other cheek also I'm afraid that's a bit mixed but Kuess it means offer the bank presi dent the remaining nickel. There's a story told of a man wh' paid a dollar for a microscopical din ner and then walked up to the pro prietor and presented him with a dime. "What's this for?" said the proprie tor. Tve just handed your waiter a do! lar for a dime's worth of grub, and 1 want that dollar to bo ALL profit." But, talking of blessings in dis CTilse, a period of depre-ssion once In a while appears inevitable under the present business system; and, if it Is Inevitable, until the system is im proved, it must be dealt with wisely. Let's rake up a proverb. "It's an ill wind that blows nobody any good." What good can be got out of de pression? Blow time is thinking time. There isn't time to thick when you're busy. Busy time is action time, and think ing has to wait. I believe then that depression time Is the time to lay plans; hopeful, op timistic plans. TAINING EXISTING STOCKS or a -ettled policy of conservatism of out- jf. ut. But. under the present system of competitive production and competi tive retailing, every one is grabbing all the business he can get, and no body wants to be conservati e until depression compels. Yes. it's difficult. The' sufferers need to pet together and express opinions; and out of the tangle and chaos a remedy or a num ber of remedies will be found. It is a large matter and it will take years to solve the riddle. One obvious fact stands out clearly. Machinery is constantly being in vented whereby cme man can do the work of several men. ter. Mr. Sumnter Milligan. wife. s..n I hat is to become of the men so displaced ? Are they to become permanently un employed '. Every blessed thing is going to oe ! done by electricity; even the washing of dishes and sweeping of floors. You can't expect to keep everyone 1 employed all day and every day when ! so many of the old fashioned jobs are i accomplished by merely pressing a j button. ! Machinery is relaying the very deuce with us; and the sooner we recognize that every new and magnificent inven tion should be a boon and a blessing to men the sooner we will recognize the necessity and the human reason ableness of reducing the hours of labor. And, if the whole world agTees, it can be done. Of course it can. This means international conference. i It means work for statesmen of a high order. The same pacific coursiTof in ternational mediation for prevention of war can and eventually must and will be used for the prevention of unemployment and depression. Depression and unemployment go hand in hand. I don't care how large trie task looks it must be dealt with cr the world will witness a hell of revolu tion. These are civilized times; times o? thought on large topics; educated times; not ignorant, stupid times. Man is a very different animal today compared with man of a hundred years ago. He will not consent to see machinery doing his work whilst he twiddles his thumbs and whines and starves. He will either have a share in what is going or he will rise up in wrath and there will be bloody civil war. Yes, depression time is thinking time It behooves the statesmen and the capitalists and the employers of labor to sit them down calmly in conference and consider this thing wisely and well for the good of all, including their own good; for facts are- stubborn things; and men like mules will kicK like blazes when hungry. If you are one of these unfortunates, then these glasses may be ruining your eyes Instead of helping them. Thousands who wear these "windows'" may prove for them selves that they can dispense with glasses if they will get the following prescription filled at once: Go to any active drug store and get a bottle of Optona; fill a two-ounce bottle with water and drop in one Op tona tablet. With this harmless liquid solution bathe the eyes two to four times daily, and you are likely to be astonished at the results right from the start. Many who have been told that they have astigmatism, eye-strain, cataract, sore eyelids, weak-eyes, conjuntivitis and other ey.e disorders report wonder ful benefits from the use of this pre scription.
