The price of cotton was advanced 12 to 20 points around the opening today on buying based on continued drouth in Texas. Moderately heavy selling was soon met, stimulated by expectation of fav orable weekly crop accounts from the government and at the end of the first hour of trading the active months were 11 to 12 points below yesterday's close. Following the weekly cotton crop reports at 10 o'clock prices were 15 to 25 points down net. No real selling power developed and at noon the mar ket stood 10 to 18 points down. NEW YORK COTTON. New York, June 26. Yesterday's big advance was followed by moderateTe- actions in the cotton market early to day. The demand from shorts was lesa urgent after the heavy covering of the previous day and there was evi dently a disposition to take profits on long cotton which was probably tn cro.ed by reports of beneficial rains in the eastern belt, the appearance of a few additional July notices and pros pects of cooler weather in some sec tions of the southwest. The opening was 18 to 66 points on July and Aug ust, but generally 1 to 8 points lower with July selling off to 28.03 and Octo ber to 25.38 shortly after the call, or 24 to 32 points net lower. The weekly report of the weather bureau proved more favorable than was thought and the market was steady. July ruled around 28.25 and October 25.60 at midday, or about 2 to 10 points net lower.
