JOHN GERKIN IS HOST AT BIG FEED HONOR CITY CLERK Last night one of the most delight ful social events of the year took place when the city -officials and employe repaired by automobiles to the attrac tive home of Mr. and Mrs. G H. Stage at Bayview Park, for a chicken supper in honor of the return from of City Clerk Leop. Heinberg, and the departure of City Comptroller Eggart, Contractor; John Gerkin being the hose for the occasion. x . When Mr.' Heinberg was about to depart, several months ago, on his un certain mission across the seas Mr. Gerkin was the host at a chicken sup per in hi honor at Hughey's and then Promised Mr. Heinberg that if he lived Jo return to the states, hejvould give another , chicken supper in his bonor. The menu, in bountiful quan tity and unexcelled quality, and hos pitably served by Mrs. Stage and her daughter, consisted of olives, vege table salad, corn bread. English peas, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, coffee, strawberries and ice cream, angel's food and devil's food cakes, chocolate bars, cigars and cigarettes. Mr. Hart left Pensacola March 15, as chief engineer of the steamer Em ily, carrying a cargo of lumber to Porto Rico. The Emily caried a cargo of salt to New York. ' " Z - . Elder Wallace conducted a series of meetings at the West Hill church sev eral years ago and is well rememberel in Pensacola by the many friends he made here during that time, all of whom are" interested to know that he is to return. FORMER SAN CARLOS . HOTEL MAN TAKES f OVER COCOA HOUSE - Cocoa, Florida, May 16. One of the famous Florida hotels, the Cocoa House on the Indian river and the Dixie high way, half way between Jacksonville and Miami, is about to change hands, the first time in 17 years. Nearly everybody in Florida who has been on the east coast has stopped . at the Cocoa House and has pleasant remembrances of the landlord; d" Grimes. Before engaging in the hotel business, Mr. . Grimes for 13 years traveled the east coast for a Jacksonville wholesale grocery. Next week A. G. Weidensee, a former Miami hotel man, and Perry Alexander, owner of a Canadian resort, Twill succeed Mr. Grimes. Mr. Weidensee was steward of the t'rmey Hotel, Miami, a year ago. and has also managed the Green Tree Inn and the Wayside Inn in that city, keeping himself busy in the summer running the Tate Springs Hotel in the Tennessee mountains. Mr;. Alexander is owner cf the Oak Orchard Lodge, 70 miles from Toronto, and a big influx of Canadians may be cpected in Florida next win ter. In addition to the Cocoa House, Messrs. Weidensee and Alexander have also taken over the Hotel Knox, Cocoa's new est hotel, and will hereafter- manage both hotels. , Mr. Weidensee was , formerly assistant manager of the San Carlos Hotel, in .Pensacola. Just now Cocoa is spending $250,000 tc build a bridge across the 4-mile wide Banana river to reach an ocean beach on which twelve automobiles can drive abreast for 20 miles: And it is worthy of note that Cocoa is the shipping point I for the famous Indian river oranges, and ships one-twentieth of all the citrus fruit i shipped from Florida. ROAD TO BAYVIEW PARK WILL BE PUT ; IN GOOD CONDITION The road to Bayview park will bo improved at once, according to a statement made yesterday by Street Commissioner Geo. H. Hinrjchs. The road on Blount street, beyond Twelfth avenue, is the bad spot yet remaining, and Mr. Hinrichs states -that as sooa as the work now being done on Jack son street Is finished the entire road force will be put on the road to th park and it wUl be graded and hard ened as quickly as possible. Difficul ties in procuring materials have caus ed the postponement of the improve ment until now. The neW road will be a -source of much satisfaction to the many outo ists who frequent the pleasure resort, and it is stated that there has been no objection to it by the affected property owners.
