JOHN KILLUM IS NEAR ANNOUNCED AS. A. CANDIDATE Tallahassee, June 2. Several tenta tive suggestions have been made dur ing the past sixty days that It waa within the realm of things possible that John G. Kellum would be a can didate before the next state pramarles for the responsible office of state su perintendent of public instruction. It may now be said with a reasonable degree of certainty that he will be a candidate. He has not yet authorized the statement that he will, but he ad mits the fact that he is thinking about about making the race, and such an admission is usually followed at , the proper time by a definite affirmative announcement. He was a teacher in his earlier days in public life. Efficiency was the one aim that actuated him then, and t has never for the tiniest period since then ceased to be the slogan of his life. Of course in a state where effic iency is sometimes lacking, but .is t so much demand, he was not long permitted to occupy the humble posi tion of a Florida teacher. Rapid as his rise has been, he has adhered always to the belief that the place should seek the man, instead of the man the place. And his talents have been such that he was constant ly sought to fill places of great re sponsibility. He has elected to re main in the educational profession b--cause he loves it. It is so much a part of his existence that he would not care to exist in any other atmosphere. As assistant clerk of the house of representatives under the lamented Dr. Bynum, of Live Oak, who went to his rekard many eyars ago, and then as chief clerk of the house, he is known all through Florida. But it has been a ssecretary of the board of control, having under its control all the Insti tutions for higher education in Florida, and as manager for the college fo women at Tallahassee, that he has been able to bring out most of his ability as an educator. The hog chol era serum bill having been signed by the governor and filed in the office of the secretary of state, . the last official act-necessary to make it one of the laws of the state, Mr. Green, of Bradford, announced that the pur poses of his coming to the legisla ture have been accomplished, and that so far as he is personally concerned, the end of the session might come at any time without disturbing him in the least. He declares that was the platform on which he run, and he naturally feels elated over the matter. It will be recalled that the serum bill, as it passed, carries an appro priation of $100,000 for the' next two years. Under Its provisions the far mers and stockraisers may receive as much as ISOOcc at half the actual cost, and as much 'as they want at cost. It is hoped by this ' to encourage hograisers to use hog cholera serum more extensively over the state, and finally eradicate this disease, which costs the state millions of dollars each year in , the loss to one of Its most valuable products. fay $1.UU Yeekiy Clothing for Men and Women Suits, Dresses, Skirts, Waists, etc Largest and oldest Credit House Reasonable.
