The Initiative of the Chamber of Com merce of the United States in arrang ing for-the Conference, and securingl the co-operation of England, TVance, Italy and Beligum, was taken with the approval of the United States govern ment. : ' The -purpose of the Conference, therefore, is to bring together the leading business men and financiers ! of the United States and the forelga countries named. In an effort to come, to a better understanding' of questions ; of mutual interest, to .work out pro grams of future development, andi to inform each country of the difficulties and needs of the others. The Confer ence, it Is believed, will give the Amer ican business men the inspiration they need, and mark the beginning of a new commercial era. As a result of understanding reached, friendly rela-) tions between the business interests of! Europe and America doubtless will be established, American . production Willi flow without interruption to meet the I needs abroad, and foreign dealers will be able: to pay satisfactory prices for the things they buy. - - .. This will enable the visitors carefully to Inspect industries of interest to each, to form business acquaintances with American bankers and operators and form a compre hensive Idea of American methods of finance, manufacturing and com merce.
