Chemist Wins Lasting

"I tried several doctors and all
kinds of medicine, and had about
given up all hope of getting better.

In? crisp mornings, warmer out-door
garments for a brisk walk in the park
or golf links are in demand.
It seems to me that I have never
?en more attractively sporty sports
clothes than this autumn. The outfit
sketched today is fetching enough to
lure the laziest woman in the world
out of doors just for the sake' of
wearing it. f
The kilted skirt of Scotch plaid is
the keynote for tho costume. Its pre
dominate color is peacock blue with
cross bars of brown, and dull sage
green, relieved with threads of black
a,nd white. The jersey sweater coat
repeats the blue in the plaid, with its
long throw scarf lined in sage green.
The soft felt hat is also of the green,
while the narrow leather belt, dog skin
gloves and spats are of brown.
The smart little cane which gives
an added air of jauntlness to the out
fit has a "crook" handle wrapped in
brown leather.
' SMILES
It isn't the fellow who has a smile
Because of the smile of others,
Eut the fellow who counts la the fel
low who smiles
In spite of his scowling brothers:
Or whether they smile or whether
they don't
If he's true to his own soul's light
He will keep on smiling through thick
and thin.
He will smile for the sake of the
right.
The old song says if you smile for
them
They will have & smile for you .
But the man who smiles if they smile
or not
Is the man who will put things
through;
The man who smiles because It's his
heart
That brings o his face the glow
Of the peace arid the power of doing
his part
In the world's great dally show.
To do things just to gain in return
Some gift or some grace of life
Is only a half way style to win
In the toll and struggle and strife.
For the best old grace is the grace of
Joy
In doing and serving along
With a smile that is sweet as the
smile of a boy
Till your smile makes labor a song.
TRUST IS BEST
I think If thou couldst know,
O soul that wilt complain,
What lies concealed below
Our burden and our pain;
How Just our anguish brings
Nearer those longed-for things
We seek for now In vain
I think thou wouldst rejoice and not
complain.
j-
And yet thou canst not know,
And yet thou canst not see;
Wisdom and sight are slow
In poor humanity.
If thou couldst trust, poor soul.
In him who rules the whole.
Thou wouldst find peace and rest;
Wisdom and sight are well, but
trust is best.
