S'OX RAFTERY SAYS SILVERSTEIN IS BEST I SOUTH WA8HINQTON AND LEE HAS WONDERFUL LINE-PLUNGING BACK WHO IS PICKED TO BE ALL-SOUTHERN OR ALL AMER ICAN. Xiexington. Va, Oct. 24. Head Coach Raftery of the Washington and Lee "Generals" declares that in "Bullet Joe" Silverstein he has the best line plunging fullback in the South. Inter viewed regarding this brilliant player. Coach Raftery said: "Not only is Silverstein. one of the most terrific line plungers I have ever seen, but I am certain that his de fensive work cannot be excelled by any player in the Soufh. The man is a terror with a football. He weighs about 178 pounds, is built low, and hits the line with a speed that reminds one of Percy Wendell, the old Har vard back, and Joe Is as hard to down as Johnny Maulbetch, of Michigan. If Joe can't find a hole he bores one through; and it's going to take a good team to stop him." Followers of the Washington and Lee team seem to have the same opin ion as Coach Raftery concerning Sil verstein. The fact of his having play ed such brilliant ball at the University of Pennsylvania early this season, as well as his showing here in the past three games, marks him as a danger ous man for Washington and Lee's opponents. CAHN TAKE THEIR PROTEGES TO MOBILE TO MEET UNIVERS ITY MILITARY ACADEMY. ... Pensacola High leaves "for Mobile early this morning to play what is ex pected to be one of the hardest and best games of I the season. They will meet the team of the University Mili tary ' Academy, commonly called Wright's School. Wright's has an exceptionally strong team this year and the Pensacola players will have a fight on their hands but hope and expect to win. Seventeen ' men. Including Coach Farrior and Manager Cahn, are mak ing the trip, together with a few en thusiastic rooters. The players had not been chosen last night but it is expected they will be the same bunch, with few exceptions, that went to De Fun lak to play Palmer. The best practice of the Reason was held Tuesday, and now, with plenty of re-newed pep Coach Farrior has a team of which he can be proud. Far rior has taught the . boys considerable real football and the team plays the game all the time. High School students have received much encouragement from Pensacola business men who have responded generously in the matter of buying season tickets to the home games. Football is one-of the most expensive of school sports and it is this solid backing which High School players are depending on to make the game a success here. Every Dot - . A . Of course, Illinois and Minnesota may do something big in a football way before the curtain is rung down on the 1919 season. Minnesota, always a slow team to develop, shows indica tion of being a . factor, and Illinois, though getting a slow start, may show some of the class boasted of. But Ohio State and Michigan have the class right now. They're primed for their best game of the season. Both teams are loaded down with letter men veterans of good teams of 1916 and 1917 and the players who were on the "informal teams" of 1918. The wonderful Harley of Ohio State teamed with the brilliant Stlnchcomb almost makes a team. But besides these two stars there ;are nine others who apparently are not outclassed by anything in the west. And Michigan has its Weston and its Sparks.: And besides even more veteran players than has Ohio. It should be a wonderful game and a great crowd will see It. The victor, with its most formidable opponent re moved from the running will have the edge ; on ' the championship for this year. - ' Mere Than Enough Is Too Much To maintain health a mature man or woman needs Just enough food to repair the bodily waste and provide, energy and body heat.
